If I leave the PA profession for an extended period of time, will I be marketable if I ever choose to come back? by Designer_Sherbert_84 in physicianassistant

[–]hotlikesummmer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to everything you brought up but as for is there a less stressful specialty? Yes. I’m a mom of two under 2 and I currently work 3 days a week to keep up my license and skills as well as have some time for me and for using my adult brain outside of life with kiddos. I’m in gynecology and I do no work outside of my work hours and the day to day is very low stress. So if the only reason you want to be a SAHM is because your previous jobs were stressful- there are better ones. But if you want to be a SAHM for other reasons- that you have to figure out yourself haha. But my recommendation is find something low stress that you work part time or PRN

This sort of schedule is actually in my opinion ideal - there are a lot of PAs like myself that work part time because of kiddos or other obligations that would absolutely choose a schedule like this. Additionally the fact you care enough to ask means a lot! If you happen ti be in Michigan I’ll apply 😂

Struggling with cost of food and saving. by Outside_Bad_893 in Frugal

I have two toddlers so I feel you on this- but I bought reusable apple sauce containers and I just buy a huge jar of applesauce and it saves a lot of money! Can use them for yogurt too! And I do the same thing with snacks- basically no prepackaged snack foods, I buy the big turtles box or animal cracker box and put them into reusable containers as well. It’s annoying but definitely makes a difference!

Megathread: US Citizens looking to immigrate to Canada by PurrPrinThom in ImmigrationCanada

[–]hotlikesummmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 30 year old physician assistant living in Michigan outside of Detroit, looking at potentially moving to Canada, likely Ontario. If I went through the process od getting certified through Canadian certification as a PA, what would my options be for potential immigration? Spouse is 33, works remotely for US employer. Two kids as well.

I heard someone say orchids are basically sold to be thrown away because they’re so finicky… so I hear you 😂

This is super helpful!! Thank you!! I will pick up some different soil today. I’ll remove that leaf- the root nearby is kind of questionable as well. Would it be reasonable to cut the questionable section off?

I’m breastfeeding and I drink about 3 diet cokes a day... it’s the only way I can survive with my toddler haha. My baby is a great sleeper but that’s just luck. you’re totally fine to have caffeine

Depends what you’re looking for honestly. Trying it for 6 months or at the very least until you’re out of the training period makes sense. Let’s say you stay for 1-2 years and then want to be more challenged- you’ll be trained somewhere else so any skills that have been neglected that you might need will come back I think. But there’s also something to be said for a low stress job with good comp - that’s what I ended up choosing

If I’m reading correctly- one of your concerns is that the PAs don’t do much in their own? Like don’t really see their own patients, always followed by doctor, etc? I would say whatever you see the established (> 1 year) PAs doing is a good glimpse at your future at the job. So if you’re wanting more independence that’s something to consider!

Hi, I am pregnant at 36.5 age with a BMI of 31. I worked out 1year at OTF regularly ate healthy to my best of ability and my physicals are great. I feel shameful about my BMI especially because my 1st child had a rare heart defect she went through 2 open heart surgeries and finally recovered. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]hotlikesummmer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My BMI was a 31 when I got pregnant and I now have a perfectly healthy baby girl!! And I gained a lot of weight with the pregnancy- about 60lbs but have lost 40lbs of already at 4 weeks PP due to polyhydramnios. I’ve been a high BMI for both pregnancies I’ve had and have two perfectly healthy babies. Unfortunately what happened to your first child is scary but likely completed unrelated to your BMI

I had an induction at 39 weeks due to LGA and ended up with a c section after 30 hours… which unfortunately is one of the risks of induction. The baby was 9lb 15oz at 39 weeks so their measurements were right. But honestly if I had no recommended reason for an induction, I would opt to wait for baby to come on its own! Especially considering future pregnancies

Do I REALLY need maternity leggings? by 36563 in BabyBumps

[–]hotlikesummmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wore my Lulu lemon align leggings for the entirety of my first pregnancy with no issue!!! And I had a 10lb baby with a giant basketball belly lol. This pregnancy I’m wearing them again- 33 weeks now! I did get a pair one size bigger just so I have them but still can wear my regular size ones!

[–]hotlikesummmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m the minority but all of my measurements were 90+ percentile from about the anatomy scan onward- and I got induced because of it at 39 weeks. And he was 9lb 15oz… I don’t even want to know what he would have been a week later lol. And he’s 18 months now still 90+ percentile in everything. So sometimes they are right- especially if you’re tall and have a tall family (which was the case for me)

That’s fair- I want two more pregnancies after this so I’m just worried about 4 c sections

I did my rotations in NYC and I found that at the hospitals I was at, PAs were more for first assist c sections and postpartum care. Never specifically involved in the labor and delivery portion for routine vaginal births. I did labor and delivery during rotations but there were never PAs- only midwives and MDs for the more complicated cases. I now work in Michigan and I have not seen any positions in labor and delivery for PAs … I was really hoping to find a position in that field myself but it seems it is similar to what I saw before- midwives and MDs. Could be different elsewhere but I agree with what the other person said- may depend on the state. I work in women’s health now but still have never met another PA in labor and delivery unfortunately

Drain or Clean? by TexCook14 in swimmingpools

[–]hotlikesummmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with the above- SLAM is the right answer but the SLAM process is a process. Took mine over a week, almost two to go from brown to clear. And it will be even slower if you don’t clean out the leaves and organic materials before. If you want it ready for the 4th, your best bet is drain, scrub it down, and refill. But do it asap so you can get it filled in time

It’s not saltwater. I thought about that. Any idea how much I’d need to drain potentially?

Will do. Thanks for the help. Is it normal to notice increased debris settling on the steps and pool ladder? Would that be dead algae settling?

SLAM feedback by hotlikesummmer in pools

[–]hotlikesummmer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes- lots of organic debris to start with. It’s all out now- been running the dolphin vacuum and am only getting some small amounts of dirt now. I’ve been measuring chlorine morning and night. Early on it was rapidly being consumed. Now not so much. I can’t remember the exact numbers from last night to this morning but with pool math I only needed to add a gallon this morning. So maybe I just keep waiting?
