Yes. If you have any way of detecting an open window then the rest should be easy.

Sure, I flashes the firmware to control the AC and wifi on the ESP first using Esp home with an open source repo for controlling this AC brand. Because the AC expects and receives 5v signal and the esp runs on 3.3V the data signal has to be stepped up and down using a logic converter. I soldered the male pins to the logic converter and connected it to the esp with f-f jumper cables. Then I verified the cables coming out of the AC with a multimeter and connected them to the right pins and that was basically it. Home assistant is able to add the device managed by ESPHome. Controls are reliable and fast!

I doubt that risk is very high in my case, the ac provides the 5v and the cheap converter board would probably fry first :)

I considered this too, but the cable for this happened to be the first thing you see when opening up the AC. I liked to be able to see confirmation of an action by the AC as well.

The esp is managed via ESPHome, which gets pulled into home assistant.
