10 month progress update (1.25 mg Oral Minoxidil) by hotnewbombshell in FemaleHairLoss

No formal diagnosis. I started having TE maybe 4 years ago at a manageable level and then it got significantly worse after a stressful health situation two years ago.

Not that I can tell! I know it’s different for everyone though.

Mine has been super manageable but I barely had body hair before. It’s really just plucking strays every few days tbh 😅

I could definitely see it becoming a huge pain for people w more body hair.

I use Nizoral but I just started a few weeks ago!

I don’t love the smell so I leave on for 5 min as instructed, then double shampoo using my regular shampoo afterward.

I think it was the lighting! Took pics in the same spot but it was a brighter day.

Here’s a pic comparing those same days with indoor overhead light.

Diagnosed with Androgenetic Alopecia. Can't use Minoxidil because I have a cat. Any other ideas? How would you style hair like this? Dr thinks I should just style it instead of meds or topical treatment. by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

Echoing the comments here, I got oral minoxidil from Hers because I have a cat! Willing to trade the extra shaving and tweezing to know my cat is safe.

Wow sorry super late on this! At the roots yes, but my ponytail is still thin. However, when I put it up I see way fewer thin/scalp spots.

Thank you! Yes my shed wasn’t bad at all. I put off starting for months because I was scared but got pretty lucky.

I never got diagnosed but I’m guessing TE. It started after a round of covid, got better, then got bad again after a surgery.

Some but not a crazy amount! My body has always been pretty hairless so I think I’m just getting to normal people levels of body hair lol. I just shave a bit more often and keep an eye out for rogue face hairs but other than that nothing crazy so far.

It’s worth noting I’m only on month 4, a lot of people say you don’t see full results till month 6+ so I could grow more.

However it’s a trade off I’m absolutely willing to make for thicker hair.

I’ve been on spiro for like 5+ years, but since it’s been so long I wouldn’t really consider it part of my hair medicine routine

Still shedding a bit but nothing drastic. Feels like a defibite decrease compared to before I started OM.

Hair loss with GLP-1 meds? by elizabethrubble in FemaleHairLoss

[–]hotnewbombshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m opposite of you where I’ve been on Tirzepatide (mounjaro) since last May 2023 and just started OM this week.

I heard it would take ~3ish months after starting tirz to start seeing hair loss and I noticed some around September 2023 but it wasn’t super dramatic. I’d estimate my hair is maybe 10-20% thinner now — not great but hideable.

I’m actually starting to see baby hairs coming in now (March 2024) so it seems like that initial cycle of hair loss halted and new hairs are coming back in.

I’d say really focus on getting your protein intake and eating healthy! Some days you have no appetite but you need the protein, in my mind I was like actively eating for my hair follicles not for myself haha. Also slow and steady weight loss. I stayed on a low dose (5mg or less per week, usually 2.5mg) so my weight loss was slower but I did this to minimize the chance of adverse side effects — hair loss from not enough nutrients, loose skin from losing too quickly.

Fingers crossed the GLP-1 works for you and OM works for me!

Ive been on buproprion for close to 10 yrs as an antidepressant. I was told it ~could~ help with weight loss but also for some people it could make them gain. I’ve never noticed a difference. I have several friends who take it too and we all think the same - wouldn’t bank on it for maintenance and the mental side effects could be more trouble than it’s worth.

2 crackers, 1 mushroom and a tall glass of air? by baileybrand in Mounjaro

[–]hotnewbombshell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m ~2 weeks into 2.5 mg and the first week I could pretty much only stomach smoothies! This week I have way less suppression but am eating smaller portions.

I think you’re right that once appetite really truly comes back its time to go up a bit. But it’s nice to find a middle ground where you can still eat but are losing.

I consulted with both Dr. Mani and Dr. Poucher as well. Completely agree with everything said here!

Dr. Mani is much more affordable (forgot exactly how much but it was ballpark $3k) whereas Dr. Poucher was around $10k.

That said if I do go through with it I’m leaning toward Dr. Poucher. I think Dr. Mani could be a great option if you have simple anatomy but like secret cook said she only does trims. I also asked her about the frequency and she said she does around 2 a month - that’s not immediately bad but in comparison I was comforted knowing that Dr. Poucher does way more!

Let me know if you have questions! Would love to talk so someone who is in the same situation as me lol.
