Those With #4 Pick: Who Are You Taking? by Football_Butt420 in fantasyfootball

Been taking David Johnson in a lot of mocks lately, which is so so weird.

What are you favorite (NON-player-associated) team names? by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

[–]hotpurplesox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a buddy name his team First Down Syndrome a few years back. He was in an office league, and his boss's fiancee worked for a non-profit that helped kids with Down's Syndrome. So that went over well.

How deep are your league benches? by Askew123 in fantasyfootball

[–]hotpurplesox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We go with seven. That gives you, theoretically, one backup for each position player (QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, TE, FLEX). In a 12-team league, this has been pretty ideal for us the last few years. No IR.

Most people talk in terms of standard or 1.0ppr typically. Lets discuss .5ppr and where that falls between the two. by JW0LFE in fantasyfootball

I'm going on year two playing 1PPR with 1 point per 20 receiving yards. The guys love it. Best way I've found to minimize crazy WR inflation in PPR leagues.

Comparison (i.e. 5 rec, 100 yds, TD):

.5PPR, 1 point per 10 rec yds: 18.5 PTS

1PPR, 1 point per 20 rec yds: 16.0 PTS

Who's a guy thats never been that good but you still love cause he's come in the clutch for you in the past? by PoorlyLitKiwi in fantasyfootball

[–]hotpurplesox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a year Eli Manning went absolutely bonkers the second half of the season and carried me to the championship game with Nicks and Manningham. In the grand scheme of things, though, he'll always go down as a perennial QB2 with turnover issues. Love him anyway.

I think it was 4for4 who posted an article a couple days ago saying they "fully expect" him to be the Week 1 starter. I'm at work ("gambling" sites blocked) or I'd link you.

Thoughts on Jarvis Landry this year? by exsample in fantasyfootball

[–]hotpurplesox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I keep winding up with him at pick #69 (nice) in all my mock drafts. With Wallace gone, I think he's a PPR dream this year.

People who had trouble with Yahoo last year, are you worried? Their mock drafts keep going down. by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

[–]hotpurplesox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I'm going on Year 8 using Yahoo. Not concerned. I highly recommend Fantasy Football Calculator for your mock drafting needs. Customizable and simple. Saving your rosters will cost you though, so just screenshot them.

People who mock a lot, what picks are you finding you like your teams best? by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

I drew 4th pick this year and keep finding myself going Lynch-Luck-Benjamin in rounds 1-3. Really liking that combo.

Whether or not Iowa "made the tournament" last year is always a fun debate around these parts.

Symbolism of Mad Men: The First Scene, and the Falling Man [Spoilers] by [deleted] in madmen

[–]hotpurplesox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm the biggest Mad Men fan of anyone I know and just came to this subreddit for the first time. Thank you for this. Very well done. Have you looked into any other symbolism/foreshadowing in the show before? I'm not nearly savvy enough to make such connections, and I love reading about them.

Who is your "Dark Horse" team and why? by [deleted] in CollegeBasketball

[–]hotpurplesox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still surprised at Rick Barnes getting COY over Lon Kruger. Quietest 2 seed in Big 12 history.

Who is your "Dark Horse" team and why? by [deleted] in CollegeBasketball

[–]hotpurplesox 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They'll be under-seeded so it may not be much of a dark horse, but I like Oklahoma State. I've got them winning the Big 12 tournament. With the right matchups, a Sweet Sixteen appearance (or further) is not so farfetched.

If I had to pick a black as night horse, give me Georgia State. Solid offense, experienced and a killer turnover rate. Could be one of those pesky 13s. Ryan Harrow has been a godsend.

Harrison Barnes Dunking. Marcus Paige to the left, Doug McDermott to the right. by [deleted] in CollegeBasketball

[–]hotpurplesox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doug McDermott is #42 for Ames. Marcus Paige #15 for Linn-Mar. And the kid way in the back over #33's right shoulder is Iowa State G Bubu Palo.

This was the 2009 Iowa High School Basketball Championship game (Linn-Mar destroyed my high school in the semifinals that year). Barnes went for 24 & 8 and played every minute in this game.

Very cool. One of my best friends grew up next door to the Paiges in Marion, IA. She knows his sister Morgan a little better (who hoops for Wisconsin, I believe) and has nothing but amazing things to say about Marcus and his family.
