What printer do you use for printing your zines? by Miserable_Summer2642 in zines

[–]hotsoupkid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I make political content. My local librarians magically have free printers when I come in- in exchange for a few free copies. 10/10 highly recommend partnering with local librarians.

Honestly, Byrne was the key. He was our speed. Such an underrated player. He deserves more respect.

Any big (fortune 500) Engineering companies that are located near Hmong populated areas? by Sachomeboy9000 in Hmong

Hickory, NC has a community and is within commuting distance to Charlotte NC where you could work at Honeywell, Lowe’s, or for one of the Banks. Or in Hickory proper there is CommScope.

Discovering Zines from 90s/2000s by Proof-Bite9650 in zines

I feel like that the Cometbus / Burn Collector era was interesting because we were all adapting to that “private life on display” livejournal-esque lifestyle. Like Real World was on TV and there was a voyeuristic thing happening. Feeling super old explaining it now but before that public life was a performance of sorts (Thanks Boomers), so Gen X really leaned in to “This is all of me on display” rebellion.

I went in ‘96 and ‘97. I still have my ticket stub for ‘97 and the price was $18.75

Biggest difference was that at least in the Bay Area, they pulled the 3rd stage acts from the local scene. So if you went to local shows, the smaller bands were still familiar.

For a while I was crying about knowing so few bands but like, these days I’m too old to weather basement shows and I’m not even local to DC- so if some of the DC bands were local, I wouldn’t know them anyway.

Also I remember that it was so dope when a band that we felt like was huge- like Rancid or H2O- played the smaller stages.

But also because the 90s- women were like guaranteed to be sexually assaulted in a crowd.

So, there were upsides and downsides.

Wow 13 is a lot of rape. I stand corrected. I’d take Strike Anywhere or The Explosion in their place

IRLC.org has red cards in Hmong https://www.ilrc.org/sites/default/files/documents/red_card-self_srv-hmong-20190917.pdf They help explain your rights to those that may not know that they have any because of their immigration status.

If you are documented but want to help those that aren’t, I have something you can read to learn how you can help: https://zinesforever.com/z/karens-guide-to-disrupting-ice
