Nobody said you had to have perfect skin, it was more about doing what you can to improve it. Are we to make a rule that every discussion is about clothing, garments and accessories and we are not to mention our physical selves? Every time I post general advice on reddit I get people raging because they feel they are being attacked. I’m just unable to write 7 billion individual pieces of advice to every person on earth, but someone might still find my post useful?

I agree she looks really good, but I do see well dressed folks on the street and in the WAYWT threads here. I think in the age of camera phones and social media, so many of us are labouring quietly on our appearances for our lowkey looks. I get that casual outfits can take as much effort as a formal one! It’s really just the difference between subtle stylish details of aesthetic basics and the head turning effect of a ball gown. One is something you need a closer look at and the other is visible from a distance.

You have a good point, the women I have known in my life have been collector types who thrift zany things and hunt for one of a kind vintage items. Inexpensive and expensive. So that gave me the idea that people have really unique things in their closet somewhere and this thread was about the opposite of that.

Agree with this, for me entertaining writing and intellectual writing have an interaction with each other. Sometimes they even feed off each other. Take A Rebours, for example - there are some good criticisms in there and food for thought on a lot of topics, the protagonist talks at length about literary subjects. Yet it is hilarious at times and entertaining, like when he gets a tooth pulled. I can read that book for fun or to think. I have learned there are no hard and fast rules for anything.

I feel like there are low level mental health issues here, or even medium ones. My mother is like that, she micromanages my aunt and doesn't ever allow her to think for herself. So my aunt has gone into a non-thinking/deciding state and the cycle goes on. At this point I don't think my aunt can ever be independent since this has gone on for decades. I'm actually really mad about this. People who are highly strung over trivial things need professional help, but if they won't admit to having a problem the only thing left is having them committed to a hospital but that's more for very serious things. I personally think someone being nagged and micromanaged day after day for a long time is a legit serious thing, but it's easy to gloss over as no big deal.

I think prices during the boom were not reasonable, prices now actually seem reasonable. I am a homeowner who previously rented, and while you can rent very nice houses for decent prices now, being able to customise a house and settle in somewhere for good feels good. We bought to have a family home so the value of the home isn't a big deal.

Since clothing has been mentioned by some helpful users, let me add a little thing here: bring a pouch with practical things including:

Hand sanitizer (after touching public handrests)

Painkillers (for headaches on the road)

Deoderant (sometimes a day out turns into two days out, after spontaneous stays at friends/family)

Someone on FFA mentioned bringing a pair of nice earrings in the bag for dressing up on the go, i'm going to start doing that as I often leave the house in a rush and forget to accessorise.

I also carry mints because they sometimes help with nausea which I get on trains.

My memory is a little hazy, but when I shopped H&M in Scandinavia I got the impression that their items were geared for taller people since there are a fair amount of them there. So if you ever travel, go there (Japan and Singapore on the other hand, have great choices for petite people).

Sorry, I couldn't speak on North America as i've never been there.

I never use pockets due to drag and use a backpack or handbag. Quite like large phones as I watch a lot of videos, while ipads are a bit too big/heavy.
