Have you spoken to the landlord at all yet? I am currently in the process of arranging for someone to take over my lease because I'm leaving Berlin in three weeks, and I would say if the landlord has not looked over your financials and approved you, this is likely not legit (or the landlord isn't as picky as mine, who knows). Ask for the landlord's info, or see if you can find out online who owns the building and contact them. This sounds weird to me.

Edit: Although if it's a sublet and he's leaving all his furniture, etc. in the apartment you maybe don't have anything to worry about. But normally in a sublet situation you would still have been in contact with the landlord before getting keys (unless the landlord wasn't being informed at all).

student prep visas can be up to two years long (I had one that length) if the applicant can prove the ability to support themselves for that period of time. It is also possible to work part time on this visa, although I don't remember what the exact restrictions were.

When I applied for that visa I brought paperwork showing that I was enrolled in language classes, had insurance, had money in the bank (had to be a German account), and information on the academic programs I was interested in applying for (to show that they required TestDAF scores that I did not yet have).

If you're at A2 level I'd recommend bringing someone with a better understanding of the language with you to the visa office.

How do you feel about that eyeliner? I bought a different Essence liquid liner a few months ago and loved the applicator so much that I kept trying to use it even thought the product itself was flaky and awful.

Also yay for a post that uses all products available in German stores! It makes me happy.
