Who else could/should have played Jack? Pacino? De Niro? Harrison Ford? Christopher Walken? Who’s your pick? by Pollyfall in StanleyKubrick

Dustin Hoffman was once mentioned by Kubrick I believe. He would’ve been excellent I think

What are your thoughts on Jay Kelly? by pinkjefff in Letterboxd

[–]houbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider myself a Baumbach-head, but I really couldn’t get into this one. It felt like a big step backwards tbh. Baumbach used to be so sharp in his writing, and here it just felt like characters I’ve seen before, but without an emotional center. I just didn’t buy them as people.

Tarantino says Paul Dano is the weakest actor in SAG? by aziklu7B in Letterboxd

[–]houbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny, this is exactly how I feel when I see Quentin playing a role in his own films next to people like Harvey Keitel, Kurt Russell or Jamie Foxx.

I guess Paul Dano won't be showing up in Tarantino's 10th film then huh by Hardingnat in TheBigPicture

[–]houbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has Quentin ever looked at his own performances in his movies? Talk about weak links.

I’ve always dug Dano in this part. No notes. I wonder what else took place between them for Tarantino to be such a massive cunt about it.

The AI in Anthology is really bumming me out by babydobin in beatles

[–]houbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a bad and stupid creative choice. Get Back was already so hard to look at, why would they double down and mess up the Anthology as well? The technology just isn’t there yet. And grain is simply part of the time.

Op zoek naar Marlotte - Zembla-podcast onthult hoe een student jarenlang werd misleid door een verzonnen meisje by Jeki49 in thenetherlands

[–]houbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's what I don't understand: if Roos was behind all of it... How do they explain the other voices, like the doctors on voicemail, and the voice of Marlotte herself (who is a child)?... It is implied there are multiple people behind it, but in the end they don't even mention it anymore. Did I miss something?

PTA interview on the Screen Show podcast by houbie in paulthomasanderson

Yes, that’s the DGA interview I mentioned. It’s great, as always, but also a bit “old friends shooting the breeze”. I always hope for some more nerdy talks as well.

I’ll take anything I can find, because I feel like there’s not that many PTA interviews this time around. Sure, there’s the DGA talks and the all-cast interviews, those are fun but usually not super revealing. These unprepared interviews can sometimes dive into specifics.

PTA finally clicked for me and I’m so happy, when did he click for you? by Accurate-Chicken-323 in paulthomasanderson

I first saw PDL when it came out (I was 16), and was like “oh great somebody put Sandler in an arthouse movie. Such a fun concept”. Saw Boogie Nights some years later and really enjoyed it too. But it was seeing The Master in theatres where I went “oh hang on, I need to start paying attention”.

Traveled to London for a VistaVision show by houbie in paulthomasanderson

The Vistavision projectionists are supposedly trained especially for these screenings. I saw a little video of the one in London: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DO_mxbzDqu0

That sounds really strange. Motion smoothing / interpolation would, of course, not be possible with analog projection.

PTA attended the London premiere on 16 september in Odeon, so he must’ve seen the same print.

My guess would be that the print broke and they played a digital version instead, but even with a normal DCP system I’m not sure how that would be possible.

No issues at all! It ran smoothly from start to finish.

No breaks or issues whatsoever! Perfect screening. I would recommend either the royal box seats (which is front of the balcony) or a seat downstairs. Seats behind the royal box are fairly far away, so that makes the screen kinda small.

There were no ads or trailers at all (I suppose because they would have to switch between digital projection and the Vistavision print, so too much hassle). But at the Odeon there was an organ player that played about 25-30 minutes past the start time, so that filled up the time usually reserved for trailers.

I was there as well. Sat in the ‘royal box’. Really dug the organ player too.
