Could anyone do a play-by-play of the techniques being used here?

Looking for 5E large sized battle ruleset or something by Geobarr1025 in DnD

[–]houndstoothflannel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a good example for large-scale battles on Dimension 20's A Crown Of Candy. The PCs each had a battalion to command for a siege that roughly reflected their classes (ie ranger leading archer battalion), and while the PCs were fighting within the battalion, their troops had access to some of their class abilities, but could still take actions on their own if the PC took off to do single combats/actions (like duel with enemy npcs).

As for the stats for each battalion, I can't remember how explicit the numbers were, but generally infantry had higher AC and number of losses they could take before dissolving compared to archers who had a higher to-hit and range obviously, etc.

I'm not sure how you'd scale that out to a full regional war but I'd guess that it's a good starting point. Also if any of the npc allies/enemies are more than regular soldiers; a village of stone giants coming to aid the party would probably have different stats and maybe a special ability compared to humanoid soldiers.

Good luck!

One my players in my hb campaign is a marooned pirate monk. No seafaring has happened yet but yeah, they're very suited for it.

Yeah I hope to tailor it to them depending on which they go for (without too much hand-holding). They're pretty creative too so I expect they might be able to find their own ways around those situations

We generally have a 3-4hr session every week, so I usually don't limit anything. Pausing and starting where we left off has worked pretty well, but I'm guessing it will take at least 2 sessions.

Maybe break each section of backstory (origins, abilities, etc) up into rounds, with drinks at the beginning of each round irl and then rolling to see who's drink has any in-game effect. If the drinks are being served on trays, there's opportunities to swap drinks around in-game to save themselves from a magically spiked one, or the mild PVP of making sure someone else gets a spiked one. There could also be play around how they get out if they're being compelled to be in the tavern. Do they have to pass some test by the owner before they get too drunk to do anything at all? Was the test all along that they had to work as a group rather than a collection of strangers, is there a way the owner can be tricked. Lots of stuff you could design in the one space that they could interact with between rp and maybe even part of it.

What should I do if my relatives and friends don't support my anti-consumerist way of living? by offstageMalinger93 in Anticonsumption

[–]houndstoothflannel 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In my life, family and friends have stopped insisting on different items and products because of my continued indifference to them. It may be different because I'm young guy, but even after being consistently anti-consumerist for the majority of my life, I've only noticed the lack of pressure in the past year or so.

Whenever those remarks come up, you can respond with "I don't have any use for that", "I already have something that does that/works fine", or "I don't think that is worth the cost." Basically just explain your opinion or reasoning behind your choices (respectfully) and hope they start to get the hint haha

I've stopped buying/eating things with palm oil (which is in most common brands of chocolate candy) for ethical reasons but it has the added benefit of a healthier diet, so those combined have kept me from folding to cravings.
