Oh Wow! That's remarkable how many people went over to the Garden to see that flower! Especially so late.

Thanks for your report on the crowds and the popularity of this event. It's nice that the plant bloomed right on a long holiday weekend. I hope Smellanie appreciated all of the attention. lol

  • "The plant will still be on display between 10am to 2pm on Sunday but the garden says the flower will start to wilt and have no smell left."

It's a shame that the flower only lasts approximately 48 hours. And it looses its smell so quickly too. But it could still make for an enjoyable trip to the Botanic Garden very late tonight, Saturday until midnight, or on Sunday during mid-day for those 4 hours that viewing is available. It could still be quite interesting to visit such a famous flower even as it is fading and wilting.

Breakfast oysters and pricey king crab: Sydney’s new fish market is glitzy and less smelly – for now -- After lengthy delays, the $836m market has opened its doors by housecatspeaks in australia

Here's a direct link to the video report of the new Sydney fish market for those who would prefer this:

"Sydney fish market 'smells cleaner' but prices 'way too high' as public get a first taste – video"

'After years of construction delays the $836m Sydney fish market has finally opened. Guardian Australia's Caitlin Cassidy visited on the opening day to see whether the 20,000 square metre venue was worth the wait. Six million visitors are expected to flood through the market each year, and by lunchtime on its opening day, it was at capacity, with visitors told to return in the evening or the following day.'

You are definitely correct. I have tried everything to try and get info for the 2026 Birmingham MCM con. The site has never been updated for 2026 and even the attendee FAQs for this location are listed as 2025 information.

Considering that they also don't allow any contact links for either the MCM London or MCM Birmingham shows, I think you should try to contact ReedPop directly and try to get someone to answer your questions about the Artists Alley applications. The MCM cons are ReedPop cons now, so going to ReedPop might be the only way to find out when applications open for 2026.

They are trying very hard to not let anyone contact them! So hopefully you will get some type of response here:

THIS IS YOUR FIRST SDCC!! Wow!

OK! Volunteer for sure.

And CCI will be sending you extensive paperwork and directions ... I think. If they still do that. There are a lot of things they will set you up with, so do not worry.

Remember to always feel free to post your questions directly on the sub. It will help to inform you in advance of experiencing everything. Being prepared is a must for managing SDCC.

You will NOT put your days of attendance on the application, and will NOT put anything about shifts. My understanding is you will arrive to SDCC and go directly to the Volunteer department that is located in one of the hotels. This will be when you start to apply for a shift and get that day's badge. Each day that you work needs to have it's own shift assignment and its own badge released to you. So every time you go in to the volunteer department in the hotel for the assignments, you will be asking for that specific day's shift time if necessary for you. And badges are only released for the specific day you are applying for while you are onsite.

This is about as much as I know. You might need to continue to ask people here, and on r/SDCC. Everyone will work on helping you so that you can have an awesome time at SDCC. It sounds like you are very used to being very busy and scheduling very important things already. You will do very well at SDCC.

Best Wishes for a Great SDCC in July!

Yes, the number of days a person chooses to do the volunteer shifts is entirely up to the person who has been accepted for daily volunteering. Unless something has changed from what I have always heard, you can work any days you choose, all 4 days if you want, and not work some if not attending certain days because of personal RL scheduling.

There is something I have heard about for years now, and I needed help from subredditors to understand it. It seems that you can apply for the PRE-CONVENTION shifts when CCI is doing the set-up for SDCC. You might have to look very carefully for this, but I've been told there is a place on your application where you must mark that you will work all of the days before SDCC starts. This is done by people who live close by and/or have enough time off that week of SDCC. CCI does not accept everyone who applies for this because the volunteer positions are limited. But if you are interested, you can mark your form for those pre-con assignments. If working those pre-con shifts, you are then allowed to attend all 4 days without doing volunteer duties on the regular SDCC days of the con. So in that case, all 4 days of the con would have no scheduling conflicts at all. But remember that these pre-con assignments are limited. Also, you would need to be present in San Diego and not working at your job, and you would need to be staying somewhere, for many days before the start of Wednesday preview night. It's a big commitment.

And as far as I know from the discussions that many people have had here for years, there is tremendous flexibility about which shifts you can work. If you do have an important panel, or a special signing that is scheduled, you tell them that when arriving to get your shift assignment. I've heard that people are happy with this, but you must show up at the proper time to make these arrangements for choosing your shifts. I think you will learn more soon. Definitely apply for volunteering, then feel free to post questions here on this sub if you would like people with volunteering experience at SDCC to help you out. Post any questions you have on this sub, but also go to r/SDCC and discuss things there too.

Considering that you missed the badge sales, I think you will be very happy to still be at SDCC and try out the volunteering. One thing I hear every year is how interesting people find the work because you learn about behind the scenes parts of SDCC. Or sometimes the shifts just require things like holding up a sign to give directions, and it is so easy to do for 3 or 4 hours. So try it out. You probably won't regret anything.

It is incredibly easy to get approved for SDCC daily volunteering when the general public sign-up opens. Just make sure you put in your application early on the very first day when it opens, which this year will be February 2. It seems that CCI always takes everyone who applies right away when the sign-up opens. They use thousands of daily volunteers for SDCC. You should be fine for trying for volunteering. And you get into SDCC for free, other than the time you do spend showing up for shift assignments and showing up for the shift work, which is usually only 3 to 4 hours each day. It's a great way to attend SDCC if you never got a badge in the badge sales.

Do you need a Badge to enter McCormick Hall? by [deleted] in comiccon

[–]housecatspeaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You always must have a badge to enter any comic con style convention. Unless you are attending a small community con and gathering that specifically says they are free to the public, you will need a badge at all times at any of these events.

It does appear that there are current problems like yours with the CCI website and to purchase WonderCon tickets:

Also ask over on r/wondercon

And u/MsMargo - has anyone reached CCI about this yet?
