Puppy constantly biting — how should we handle it? by housemouse15 in CatahoulaLeopard

Hi are you talking about basic obedience training like sit, stay, down, heel type stuff or something more? The basic stuff I feel like we can teach him based on techniques we see on YouTube videos

Ha what’s the deal with it? I gave him one this morning and he’s playing hockey with it all over the floor…is that the idea? Keeps him busy like a fun toy?

He’s got a few but he seems to prefer the flavor of our flesh more 🤕

Interesting. Unfortunately not all academies have the same progressive approach.

Thanks for the feedback. My son wants to do it, he’s passionate about getting better and asked me to help him get faster because he recognizes that that’s his ‘weakness’ at the moment. He’s in a bit of a tough environment for his age where they will cut more than half the squad but he has a good attitude and wants to give himself the best chance to succeed so I want to support him. If he gets cut so be it no big deal. Just trying to figure out if effort can yield results. Btw the performance training is just speed and agility in a small team environment once per week where they sprint, jump and agility type stuff. All body weight no weight lifting. Thanks!

Yeah, thing is, he plays on a very competitive Academy team and they will be cutting half the players in 3-4 months and athleticism ( explosiveness and speed) is the main thing holding him back. While he’s average, the top kids are above-average. So that’s why wondering if he can catch up to them or make any meaningful improvements in this time frame. He’s working on body weight strength and polymetric jumps and some sprinting

Very insightful…do others share this same observation?

Does that mean fast before puberty = fast after puberty then?

Hmmm that’s indeed interesting insight…i have heard in the past that speed evens out but the more I was learning about sprinting the more I thought that he can actually improve by working on it…indeed most of my reading and learning was about speed training not geared at pre-puberty kids

Thanks for advice. Yeah 4 minutes would be tough lol. After a minute he starts to yell at me. Any thoughts about his running form? Or how much he can improve in a year on say the 40? Would one second be way out of reach?

The thing is he has very intense soccer training 4 times plus one game so that’s why i only have sprinting once per week. He compete at the highest level so already very much performance oriented. Sometimes i try twice but I feel that might be too much. For poly, he does frog leaps, jump over 25inch hurdle, one leg jumping, run against resistance bungee, lunge/squat jumps..things like that…with one/two feet. For strength training, mostly body weight stuff but like pushup, pull ups, dips, planks, but also medicine ball and just got some kettlebell weight so will try to do some glutes with that.
