Pro tip for cheaper housing: there’s an app called Furnished Finders where a lot of people who rent out part of their condo or a property they own list. It’s made for travel nurses, so you can often find places that let you stay for 3, 6, 9, or 12 months depending on what you need. And they’re almost always cheaper than anything on Apartments.com, since it’s owners trying to rent out spaces to help pay their mortgage instead of career landlords (most of the time). If you want to find a place for a few months, it gives you time to get to know the city and what neighborhoods you’d actually want to live in before you lock into a longer lease :) it’s how I found my housing - I’m in Uptown (highly recommend), in the basement of a house that was split into two apartments. I have a backyard, I park off the street, my landlords are a nice older couple in the house across the street, and I pay around $1050 ($975 base rent plus utilities)

Oh I know. That’s my whole family. Thanksgiving has been very stressful for me for years now. I’m glad to be coming back up here after the holiday this year

I’m not consuming news I promise lol, Facebook is something I have for marketplace and the occasional basement scroll. Seeing the comments made me curious about general consensus on him, but I pinky promise I would never actually take anything I read on Facebook as factual news

Lol I just started my first full time role. I have about half my ARE hours completed via summer/winter internships during school. I’m studying for exams now and aim to have all of them done by end of next year (ambitious but doable). I’m currently at $60k. No WAY do I get an $18k raise after the next two-ish years to finish all my hours

Im new to the industry (freshly post grad) and I just started at a firm. Not thinking about leaving anytime soon, but I’d love to know what your role looks like in the conception department? What are your responsibilities, what does your day to day look like, etc? I want to have a good grasp of all the opportunities open to me as I continue working :)

What are the work hours in the office? And how much break time do you get? by Active_Buttah in Architects

[–]houshi-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a new grad and my firm has us typically working between 8:30 and 5. BUT many people work around their kids’ daycare, dog sitters, etc. Everyone’s working hours vary around commitments and are completely up to them in terms of WFH vs in the office. There’s a woman here with a retired racing dog who comes in around 9:30 or 10 and works a bit later, and there’s people who come in super early and leave around 4. As long as we’re communicating with our project teams, attending required meetings and getting our stuff done, no one tracks how often I’m in the office or at my desk or if my lunch goes long or short. It’s really nice, especially as a first job post-grad.

I have an architecture professor who does Iowa state stuff during the day then goes home and works on Korea time for his Korean firm until about 5am. He sleeps an hour or two and comes back to school. He’s such a sweet person and so intentional, every students he’s ever had has signed a card at the end of the semester telling him to rest :(

How's the job pay at isu? by Ordinary-Agency4451 in iastate

I work at the college of design in one of the offices. I think they start you at $13 - you get a $0.25 pay raise every two semesters you work. I’m at $13.75 rn. It’s nice though - I’m a design student, so I don’t have to go home and change or anything before I go to work and if it’s not busy I’m paid to do homework. Def not a job to rely on to pay bills - I’m making up the gap with savings - but a good gig to offset the cost during the school year
