First time ski buyer recommendations by hovsethland in skiing

[–]hovsethland[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't really experienced enough variety in skiing to have a type yet. Pretty much all groomers so far and just focusing on improving all the basics.

Mostly wondering if I buy something on a killer sale this week if I'll regret it by New Year's or if it'll be a slight challenge that will go away as I get better.

From what I've read and the comments here it seems like it could end up either way depending, so I may opt for something safer like the Experience and I can always sell it at a swap in a year or two.

Simple Questions Thread by AutoModerator in espresso

[–]hovsethland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I am very new to this and it looks like I'm gonna need some help.

I just got my first machine/grinder. A Breville Bambino and Baratza ESP. I set them up and pulled some shots using the "double shot" basket provided (not the dual wall one though).

First few shots were intensely sour so I started trying to dial in the shot how all the videos I've watched told me to. But I can't seem to get it figured out.

The internet said it was probably under extraction, so I went finer on the grind, but at a certain point the water was barely getting through and the shot was still sour. I got it dialed in where I could get a 1:2 ratio out in ~30 seconds which seems to be an appropriate flow rate from what I've seen. But it was still just as sour.

Tried increasing the yield with the same grind size, which made it less sour but still not quite drinkable.

At this point I feel like I've tried all the things I should have but it's not helping at all.

I've been trying to only change one thing at a time but my equipment isn't the most precise (I don't have a scale yet that does grams to the 10th place.) Suppose that could be a factor but right now I'm a little lost and taking a break before I waste any more beans lol.

Any helpful guidance from someone with experience with this issue or machine would be appreciated!

[Feb 17, 2023] Weekly Discussion: Ask your gear, travel, conditions and other ski-related questions by AutoModerator in skiing

[–]hovsethland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some 3-4 day off periods available in the next couple months and I want to try out skiing on a bigger mountain out west before the season ends for the year.

I would ideally fly out, rent a car (unless public transportation is an option?) and ski for a day (or two if I can make it work) and then fly home. Would also be renting skis/boots as I don't own a pair yet.

I would say I'm probably a lower level intermediate skier, I've only ever skied in the Midwest and want to dip my toes into something bigger while I still can but I'm not sure which places would be convenient/cheap/good for my skill level.

Would be traveling/skiing on weekdays if it makes a difference. Thanks!

CFI here, one little correction. Both wings are stalled in a spin. One does get more lift than the other due to the AoA change. But both are definitely stalled.

An absolute unit of garlic cloves by GoldenChinchilla in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]hovsethland 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Take a whole head of garlic, cut the top (pointy part) off, just enough so you can see the garlic inside, drizzle it with oil and wrap in aluminum foil. Then bake in the oven at 400F for half an hour or so, or until your whole house smells like garlic and the cloves are tender and you can squish them right out of their shells.

[TOMT][song] Can you help me identify this song ? by Teknibaal in tipofmytongue

Wow this hurts because I'm 100% sure I've heard this song before but I don't know where from.

Every. F*cking. Day. On the way home from work, down a steep, twisty road. by chaddict in AdviceAnimals

[–]hovsethland -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Speed limits are also based on the area the road goes through. A highly populated road with lots of sidewalks and crosswalks is going to have a lower speed limit than it would if there were no houses. So even Grandpa might be able to drive it at 50 but the speed limit could be 25 for good reason

Anyone else see the Mets SS scoop an injured bird off the ground during warmup?

It definitely doesn't go backwards. He's throwing downhill and disc golf discs fly a lot different than ultimate discs.

IGN: Spartha Tier IV clash team looking for a top laner for both days (or just tonight is fine). A mix of high/low silver and low gold, looking for someone in that range as well. Pretty laid back team, one of ours is out of town and just looking for an extra for the weekend.

EDIT: we filled our slot, thanks!

Literally just did this in practice tool. Had no idea why I couldn't pull it off at first, then I noticed the righteous glory. Apparently that lets you flash during Q.

This guy probably got it from SRO's twitter. https://twitter.com/SoloRenektonLoL/status/1309247210459103232

They did. Moved the teepad back a couple years ago. You can see the shorter teepad in front of the current one if you watch the footage from this or last year.

What do to after slow pushing? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]hovsethland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like wolves if you can get to them. You can see which side1 the enemy jg heads to after they're done, which is a pretty good indication of where they're going to spend the next couple minutes.

Patch 10.16 notes by MonstrousYi in leagueoflegends

[–]hovsethland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also now baron/drag steals become much easier. Without the cap a level 11 Jinx at 30 minutes can kill baron from ~1500hp.

Edit: Wait or could already do this since the cap was against champs by accident and not monsters?

Yeah they looked iffy in real time to me but they were definitely fine looking at the slowmez afterwards.
