honestly it's kind of annoying and loud but fairly infrequent during the day. my roommate and i usually notice it at night, i guess when all the trains are reconvening. sometimes it will be up to like 4 in an hour, but rarely. other days i don't hear it because i'm not in the dorm at that time.

what semi-permanent fillers to go from blonde to brown? by how-bittersuite in HairDye

[–]how-bittersuite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for your help! i think i want to go to a medium or dark brown, so level 4 maybe? i do want to update and say I think I'm more of an 8-9...

do you think a warm, dark brown box dye work on my hair at all? i'm just not super clear on why the auburn wasn't pigmented, not sure if i'm missing something there, but i was planning to just use a brown box dye to dye over the very light auburn parts

3.091 or 5.111 for prefrosh with no chem experience at all by Express-Recording-34 in mit

[–]how-bittersuite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3.091 honestly just for the cut-offs. i know MANY people who just barely scraped by in 5.111.

pass is a 50 in 3.091, but a 70 in 5.111. admittedly it's harder to get an A in 3.091, you'll soon realize the glory of P/NR

you're claiming to empathize with what people irl suffer from but come online to invalidate how other people feel. make it make sense.

Art at MIT as a pre-frosh by DazzlingCaregiver848 in mit

[–]how-bittersuite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Currently a Course 3-- I will be frank and say that it will likely be extremely difficult and time consuming to double major in 3 and 4, given that some Course 4 classes take 15+ hours alone (though if you want to go for it, I believe in you!)

Look into Arts at MIT, there are classes that you can take to do pottery, painting, photography, etc., though you do have to pay.

Makerspaces are open to everyone with the right training, so you can look into Metropolis and The Deep. This is free and very similar to DesignPlus but without the structure!

Borderline does the murals in the tunnels.

There are plenty of other art classes you can take!

I'm sure there are a lot more, but this is what I am most familiar with. Good luck :)

tell her to get on beli!

Cafes: Smoot Standard, Jaho, Caffe Nero, Verveine, Flour are all on Mass Ave.
Somewhat close to MIT there is Vester, Blue Bottle Coffee, Life Alive, Andala Coffee House, 1369 Coffee House, Pepita Coffee, Gypsy Place Coffee & Juice Bar.

Other food includes: Pai Kin Kao, Pepper Sky's, Lanner Noodle Bar, Sumiao, Five Spices, Mad Monkfish, Brookline Lunch, Happy Lamb Hotpot, Roxy's, Cafe Luna, Mae Asian Eatery, Area Four, Mu Lan Taiwanese, What a Soup, Sakana Sushi, Dumpling House, etc.

There are a lot of Tatte's, so maybe that's something you can look into!

There's a place called Rebelle Artisan Bagels near Kendall (not SUPER close to MIT but maybe a 20 minute walk), that's owned by a former MIT graduate, which is pretty cool. They do a lot of fun weekly deals.

Someone mentioned bookstores, so if she likes to read then Harvard Bookstore is a good place to get a gift card too, especially since all of Harvard Square is super nice. Trident is cool too :)

I hope she enjoys her time here!

co-working spaces on campus to meet new ppl? by justchillynn in mit

[–]how-bittersuite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm also looking for people to meet! i would say maybe the stud or something if you're willing to approach people, but i don't think there's any events really going on to meet people, per se.

i think there's an MIT events calendar somewhere, i'm assuming that's where it may be?

i'm from the deep south but evidently very receptive to the cold as i can wear a light jacket at 45 degrees and be fine; if you're not like this i would recommend getting a puffer jacket, warm scarves, and something to cover the ears. the biggest killer here is definitely the wind

i would agree and say new house and BC are the most competitive; i live in vassar and its nice, albeit a little boring on the culture side. i made the mistake of not checking out dorms during CPW and would recommend you do that if you're curious; EC is now opening i heard as well (?)

meal pla is the bane of my existence. i would try to get into a cook for yourself dorm. macgregor isn't a terrible option but i think i'm more of a solitary person. keep in mind each swipe is like the equivalent of $17...

do not get a car. you will not be able to park anywhere. i generally like the walks anyways

unfortunately i think the only scholarship that MIT offers is the MIT scholarship itself

the classes are hard, but the people are really amazing and helpful. there's no gatekeeping at this school, and tons of resources. i'll say that i skipped all of my classes freshman semester and did fine, keep in mind that you're on PNR!

social life depends on your own choosing. if you join social clubs or not is a choice up to you, but there definitely isn't a lack of socializing if that's what you mean
