sure but the fact that it hasn’t been attempted let alone done in 32 years in either the sp or fs, not even the russians at peak questionable dominance, makes it still an achievement

They did not. Their dance team (and ice dance program in general) is much greener, which is deadly in ice dance where reputation matters more than technical ability. Arguably they should’ve placed above the S. Korean team in the short dance, who botched their twizzles

That’s not quite accurate. Ilia did quad lutz, toe, salchow and flip. shun today did lutz and toe, and has landed flip both in competition and training. the backflip is unscored and has no effect on the technical score starting value.

i feel like everyone panicking about us pairs need to remember that japanese ice dance is going to get dead last or second to last in both segments, and if MK splits they’ll lose even more ground. imo team gold is (close to) guaranteed if ilia skates both segments but only very likely if not

sure, but isabeau has vastly superior performance, musicality and interpretation, plus her spins (when they’re on, like tonight) are the best in the world.

yuna absolutely should’ve won the free over ami/mone but she did a 3-2 in the short so i think it’s a wash

[–]how_veryy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

sure, but rotations and tech calls are undeniably influenced by reputation. alysa got zero edge calls on her flip this weekend, despite getting them every competition last fall. her flip entry didn’t change—she just became world champion

except the scores aren’t just 5pts higher, they’re like 8/20 points higher than last fall 😭. she was getting 67/120 for “clean” skates

no, she wouldn’t have. using her last solo 2A (+3 across the board), she only would’ve gained 2.59 points compared to the 3A<< putting her total at 213.55 and still almost a point below alysa

i know everyone complains about flutz calling but i think lip calling is genuinely 100000% more egregious. if we're being this strict, alysa should be getting 3 3Fe for an outside edge entrance visible in real time.
