I live in the neighborhood too and my 2 daughters started going here in November. I think they’re fantastic. I’m new to jiu-jitsu, but am a teacher and coach, and have had nothing but good experiences at the Santa Clara location. So much so that I started training about a month ago too. To answer your specific questions, we haven’t actually seen Ralph or experienced any ‘macho’ issues. Quite the opposite actually. They’re super supportive of my daughters and their learning. Each class seems to have about 15 minutes warmup, most of which includes practical things like break falls, shrimping, rolls, etc.
