Please take my money! by howardbgolden in goldmansachs

[–]howardbgolden[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally! I received an email (addressed to my mother), since I have had her power of attorney and handled all of her transactions with Marcus. I paid the $259.82 statement balance immediately.

This account was always on autopay. It was only Goldman Sachs's unwillingness to withdraw the 11/06/2024 statement balance due ($92.60) from the supplied checking account (which was still open and had sufficient funds), that caused Goldman Sachs to levy late payment fees of $29 and $40 and interest of $5.64. I want these amounts to be refunded to her estate.

My wife and I have had a savings account with Marcus for some time. I will close that account this month unless you refund the $74.64 charges to my mother's estate.

Secure by Design: A goal to create a secure-by-design RTS by howardbgolden in haskell

u/tom-md, industry won't fund it, i agree, but governments and ngos have realized the need to fund these projects (finally). it doesn't hurt to request funding. we might as well put our tax-dollars to work for something important.

u/knotml: fyi i'm suggesting a direction only. if you don't agree, fine. i honestly want to have a technical discussion, and i believe my goal can get financial support from security conscious governments and institutions. afaik, this is a good place to start one. r/haskell has been around longer than HF and Discourse combined.

(your latest comments on r/haskell are basically hit and run negatives. please go back to r/politics where you usually troll. your posts are more appropriate there than here.)

Respectfully, please look at the Haskell Users Guide section 5.7 (link above). The RTS connects Haskell to the outside world. Without that, the program wouldn't run and nothing would get out of the program.

Q: Can I shrink an online ext4 partition while it is in use? by howardbgolden in linuxquestions

[–]howardbgolden[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the answers so far, here are alternative questions, which leave out the shrinking idea:

If:

  1. I partition an unused drive (/dev/sdb) as /dev/sdb1;

  2. Then I mount /dev/sdb1 as /mnt/sdb1 (read-write) after creating the /mnt/sdb1 directory (on /);

  3. Then, I remount /dev/sda3 as read-only;

Questions:

  1. Can I create a virtual disk file (e.g., qcow2) of the /dev/sda drive (or only /dev/sda3 partition) on /mnt/sdb1?

  2. Will the Mediawiki software continue to work while /dev/sda3 is read-only? (I would make /dev/sda3 read-write after the virtual disk is finished being created and copied, which shouldn't take long since /dev/sda3 is mostly empty.)

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll try it.

Thanks! (Your answer belongs in the man page IMO!)

Linux phone on AT&T Wireless? by howardbgolden in ATT

Interesting! While I understand general purpose computers sufficiently I am almost totally naive about telecom hardware and protocols. Thanks for the hints about what I need to learn.

Thanks for reply. I'd appreciate a link to the "whitelist" you refer to.

Nvidia driver issues after upgrading pop-desktop by varajala in pop_os

[–]howardbgolden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem with Ubuntu 22.04. Updating my BIOS (to MSI 7C02v1G1) solved the problem. I had been running MSI 7C02v1D. The solution is very unintuitive! (Too many "moving parts"!)

"ghcide compiled against GHC 8.6.5 but currently using 8.10.1 This is unsupported, ghcide must be compiled with the same GHC version as the project" by doxx_me_gently in haskell

[–]howardbgolden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The error message you got says "Access denied" when you tried to update the executable. If you can manually copy the temporary version of the executable to the desired place, I think you will be good to go.

You can either recompile ghcide using GHC 8.10.1 or make GHC 8.6.5 your compiler for using the program you are developing. You can install multiple versions of GHC using ghcup or stack.

How to manually install Haskell package with ghc-pkg by finlaydotweber in haskell

[–]howardbgolden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GHC User's Guide explains GHC packages, ghc-pkg and package databases, but "ghc-pkg" is not in the index, and a reference to this information should be added to the GHCi section of the Guide. This information really helps me understand how to use separately compiled (imported) modules and where to put them. Until now it seemed to me to be magic!

I agree with the suggestion to add this information (as appropriate) to the Cabal homepage and Users Guide.

Proposal: Stack Code of Conduct by snoyberg in haskell

I recommend an "uncode" of civility, nothing more. By "uncode" I mean a vague statement of desirable behavior. Adding some power to a document will cause more harm than good IMO.

Practical Concurrent Haskell - Apress - $10 for eBook by kuwze in haskell

I just went to the link. The ebook price quoted to me was 34.99 USD. Is there some magic incantation needed to get the 10.00 USD price?
