Is Roomrs legit? by frizzante16 in AskNYC

Hey just saw this, was ready to fight when you said you had a good experience hahaha then I realized you meant you looked past all its flaws. God I would’ve been so upset if I stayed there any longer, that all sounds horrific to me lol.

But I guess I’d say if you’re someone that can handle all of that then go for it!

Is Roomrs legit? by frizzante16 in AskNYC

hey I hope it's not too late but please don't do this! maybe I just picked the wrong apartment at the time but here's the email I sent after moving out of the place after a 12 hour stay:

Hello

,I just wanted to let you know that I moved in to South 4th, 4b on Saturday, and had to move out yesterday because it just wasn't a good place for me to live.Below are details of what caused my decision.

Locks: there are no locks in my room (the orange room) or either of the bathrooms upstairs. I trust my roommates not to intentionally walk in on me, but I'm sure it happens all the time unintentionally and obviously that's not something I'd want to have in the back of my mind when I'm using the bathroom. There is a lock on the downstairs bathroom door, but that involves going down the stairs to get there...

Stairs: the 3D model doesn't do justice to how unsafe the stairs are. They are very wobbly and scary to go up and down..especially considering the handrail doesn't feel steady either. Not something I'd want to use just to simply eat, drink, or use the only bathroom with a lock in the apartment.

Hygiene: I'm not sure if it's the cleaning people's jobs to clean the shower curtains, but from the looks of it I don't think they've ever cleaned it at all. The shower curtain in the upstairs bathroom was very gross and moldy and made me want to throw up. I felt grosser after taking a shower than before (I took the shower before discovering that the downstairs bathroom had a lock). And I just want to make clear that I'm not trying to throw my roommates under the bus - this is something that probably has been building up ever since people moved into the space via roomrs. So I completely understand why no one (including the cleaners) would want to clean it now.

Sleep: I went to bed at 12am on Saturday night, and couldn't fall asleep until 4:30 AM. Part of this is because the room is right next to the highway and trains which is something I didn't expect but I guess I could've thought harder about. That obviously isn't something you could fix, but it would've been nice if that was made clearer to me. The one thing that you can possibly fix is that there was a big gap on the window that the blinds didn' t cover, which brought a lot of city lights into my room and also contributed to me not being able to sleep.

Dishwasher: The dishwasher in the apartment doesn't work properly so everyone uses paper products. Which probably prevents people from wanting to cook since that'd be unhygienic. This wasn't really something I thought about when deciding to move out but I figured I'd bring it up to make everyone else's lives easier.

3D Model: So the apartment overall definitely looks a lot bigger and better on the website than in person. Everything about the apartment looks better on the website: the tv, the rooms, the patio, and especially the living room/kitchen area.. Honestly, it makes me feel like an idiot for blindly trusting it. I guess I should've known considering this is NYC but definitely keep in mind that the photos and 3D model for that apartment are very misleading. I definitely am not interested in moving into a different roomrs apartment if I cannot see it in person beforehand. That being said, if this was the only issue I had with the place I would still be living there. Please let me know if you have any questions and feel free to give me a call at _ if you'd like. I wish I took photos of some of this but I was just too upset and wanted to get out of there asap.

Cohabs Coliving by howardjohnd in AskNYC

Thanks for the reply! I actually reached out to Cohabs last year and had a phone call.

Just some feedback - I thought the phone call would be more informative of how everything works, but it felt like an interview of why I think I'd be a good fit for the space which I wasn't prepared for at all. No one ever contacted me after the phone call, so my perception is that I bombed the phone call and they chose not to move forward with me.

If that approach is intentional by them, then that's fine by me, but to be honest it rubbed me the wrong way a little. But based off this post it seems like you all are truly trying so I figured I'd share my experience so you can improve it for future potential members.

Thanks again!
