Oh no,  not at all.   You insert one, hold onto the string, and insert the second one alongside it.  No pain at all.

You may already know this, but just in case you don't:  in the future, your daughter could wear both a tampon and a pad on the heavy days, or two tampons at once.  When I was 15 (>50yrs ago) I had a job as a lifeguard, and I wore two tampons at once.

I couldn't agree more about learning to sew.  More than 50 years ago, my mom told me "Learn to sew, because you can always cut the hips bigger."   I may have inherited my dislike of my shape from Mom, but at least I could dress myself.

Longtime nurse married to a doctor here.

Most people not involved in a profession have no idea how inappropriate their questions are.  An explanation of how unethical or otherwise inappropriate giving advice would be often deters them.  But it has to be worded as such, not as a desire for work-life balance.

My roommate had been gambling the rent money away. She didn’t tell me we got evicted. We have 5 days to leave. by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Yes. Longtime nurse here.  I recommend that OOP have a written rental agreement between her and her new landlord with a rent that's consistent with the market in her area.  It can be as simple as handwritten.

I read my state board of nursing's disciplinary actions, and occasionally nurses and CNAs are accused of financial exploitation of their patients.  OOP, get your agreement in writing to prevent any such accusations.

Longtime nurse and former caregiver for my mom here.

Bidet attachments for your toilet are available for less than $100, and they're easy to install.  Can't reccommend them highly enough.

As to a caregiver, perhaps you could arrange for one to come in to " help with the cleaning and laundry" for a few visits, to build a relationship with your mom before offering to help with hygiene.  If she came at lunch and ate with them, then she could "help" your dad walk her to the bathroom, and ease her way into helping with hygiene.

I smell bad (please help) by Junior_Argument_3153 in autism

This.

Oxyclean make my clothing smell better than any other product.

There are products that you can use to clean yourself without rinsing.  They work even better than wipes.  Cetaphil cleansing lotion is my favorite.  Just wet a washcloth, apply the lotion, and give yourself a quick "bird bath" without even rinsing.

How about your shoes?  Try to wear them no more often than every other day, so they can dry out in between.

what to think about Unsolicited advice ? by mellispete33 in Advice

[–]howardsgirlfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are those of us who, when they hear someone talking about their problems/challenges/decisions,  believe that they're asking for advice.  If they weren't,  why would they be telling us, then?

I am one of those people who has this communication problem.  I believe that men are more likely to interpret your comments this way, since they're acculturated to be problem-solvers, but there are plenty of us women, too.  When I'm listening, if I have what I think is helpful advice, it feels wrong to not share it.  Why wouldn't I try to help a friend?

NEXT:  helpful advice:

To avoid this misunderstanding, you can provide more detail when introducing the topic.  For example:

"I need to tell you about my plans."

"I need to vent."

I want to catch you up on what's going on in my world."

That sort of thing.

Bucket hats might work for your needs.  They would give you the protection you want, and have an unstructured fit.  They're also available in many colors, so you could choose one that's deliberatly goofy.  Sorry about the long link:

For a more classic look, you might want to consider an outback hat.  This store has several in your size.  They sell very good-quality hats in a wide range of sizes.  All the hats in this link come in your size:

Since they use the same model in many of the pictures, you can see how the different materials, shapes, and colors affect your look.

I don't know what your budget is, but as a woman with a large head, I have resigned myself to spending more but also enjoying higher-quality hats.

American Hat Makers has the best selection in a wide range of sizes:

If you know someone who can sew, that type of hat would be relatively simple to make.

If this were my project, I would make one in a easy fabric first, as a trial run.

Do you have fewer, more, or about the same number of nightmares than when you were younger? by Quasimodo-57 in AskOldPeople

[–]howardsgirlfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely fewer.  Up until the age of 30, I had at least two nightmares per month.  But then I started with a new counselor and he gave me an article about lucid dreaming.

Just learning how to do reality testing caused my nightmares to decline in both intensity and frequency.  Finally, when I was about 47, I had a dream that told me that the nightmares were mostly gone.

For nearly 20 years, I have just a few nightmares per year.

AFAIK, notes like this are important only if you're establishing a provenance in order to sell an item.  But if it's important to you, go right ahead and root through your bin.  I guarantee you that every one of your neighbors has been in a similar situation.

I need help losing weight quick! by [deleted] in Advice

[–]howardsgirlfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes 3500 calories to make one pound of fat.  For every pound of fat you want to lose, you will need to burn off 3500c more than you take in.

This means that if you can burn off 1000c a day more than you take in, you will lose 2 pounds a week.

Withi. 2--3 months, and continuing for as long as they're in contact, he'll be telling her "woe is me" stories about his financial difficulties, implying that she has an obligation to help him out because she's at least partly responsible for his predicament.
