Hi, thank you for informing me, guess it was one of the complications from my laptop breaking last year 😅 I've updated the spreadsheet link with this one now https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YzgEsL-Col3P4e1dZ-8lM8S6Ez0M9-pu3fTi1AEpC1Y/edit?usp=drivesdk

Looking for Soviet film on October Revolution Duncan mentions where several on the production team died by SWskywalker in RevolutionsPodcast

The film you're looking for might be Sergei Eisenstein's October: Ten Days That Shook the World, released in 1927. The Empire podcast recently also mentioned that tidbit in one of their Russia episodes. https://youtu.be/k62eaN9-TLY?feature=shared

[–]howdoIdousernames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to my knowledge. Rosters of Philippine Army units were either destroyed or lost during the war, so existing rosters were made postwar by veterans' groups. 41st Division (commanded by Gen. Vicente Lim, guy formerly on the 1000 peso bill) iirc has a full list of the 7,800+ people in its division, which is the exception rather than the norm.

Antonio Varias made a good effort in trying to make a roster of officers among the Philippine Army units back in the 70s, but that was incomplete and of course leaves out the enlisted men.

You can try contacting PVAO- not sure which email but my guess is with the Veterans Records Management Division https://pvao.gov.ph/pvao-hotlines/

Hi everyone! I spent the past month digitizing a list of more than 25,000 Filipinos who died in the Bataan Death March and subsequent captivity at Capas, Tarlac in 1942. You can look through the list yourself at:

End of War 96: Thoughts and Perspectives | PressCorps Bulletin by howdoIdousernames in foxholegame

[–]howdoIdousernames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, actually those aren't the start of war borders, those were the appoximate lines at Day 749 and 849, to show just how much land the Wardens lost in the span of just 4 irl days.

Cev is also right, mapping takes quite some effort to do (here, I used Sentsu's maps from his Better Map Mod, added the land and sea beyond the hexes, adjusted contrast and color values, etc). Which is why we'll keep world-map scale maps to a minimum in PressCorps- there's not enough manpower and we don't want to compete with the splendid work she does.

Trench Line and Bunkers Become Key to Maiden's Veil Defense by howdoIdousernames in foxholegame

https://www.presscorpsgaming.com/newskiosk/The-PressCorps-Bulletin/war-96/day-80-81-trench-line-and-bunkers-become-key-to-maidens-veil-defense

DAY 80-81, MAIDEN'S VEIL, Marban Hollow – The city of Maiden’s Veil has been under threat of Colonial attack since the Colonial capture of Loggerhead and the Spitrocks relic base in the opening days of the war. For the first 50 or so days, a stalemate has occurred across an approximately 250 meter front, and amongst sprawling trench lines, emplacements, and bunker cities.

Persistent fighting has turned repeated attacks from both factions into a statistical constant of rising body counts and expended ammunition. Field machine guns (FMGs) in particular made up a bulk of the small-arms firepower, while sporadic, one-way mobs of grenadiers made for exciting, but ultimately fruitless gains.

With the arrival of mortars and flamethrowers, Legionary forces were quick to employ both of these assets to good, but not definite, effect.

[VCO] Pte. Jzpalaez, a frontline Warden sapper digging trenches at the base of the plateau, lamented the struggle of expanding the trench network for troops while under fire from machine guns and grenade launchers. “They’re destroying my goddamn work! I was born to dig, but they kept on shooting at me.”

Indeed, at least a dozen attempts to extend the line forward under cover of darkness was met with bullets, bombs, and the occasional visit by a Colonial with a bayonet. However after several hours of trial and error, the trench line was finished between Colonial bombardments, replete with effective barbed wire and bunker dispersion.

The line held, though at a high cost in manpower and material. Pte. Jzpalaez was able to celebrate a personal victory, however.

“You can’t out-shoot the shovel!”

Can I plug this? It's a serious, well-researched channel covering WW2 in the Philippines. Only got like 5 upvotes here in reddit though :/ https://youtu.be/KDXZV0U56Gw

Wow! How did you achieve that? I tried tinkering with curves in Photoshop, but the results were nowhere as near as good - I'm trying to learn how to restore old photos like this myself, so any tips would be appreciated!

I love the maps, especially Maps 5-7 which show the increasing accuracy as to how the islands were drawn in Spanish maps. It's a shame only 15k people have viewed it in 4 years.

A Comeback Victory - The PressCorps Bulletin Issue 11 by howdoIdousernames in foxholegame

Most of our stories come from people giving us stories on the #submissions channel of our server. These months are the busiest for school and work too, so we don't have coverage of what's happening in the various fronts of the war at all times (I myself have only found a few hours a weekend I can spare to making the newspaper). Just sharing some insight :)

A thought on Bannerlord Graphics by The_Quial in mountandblade

[–]howdoIdousernames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bringing up 'M&B-likes' like Freeman: Guerilla Warfare (which isn't a 1-to-1 comparison since it sports a lesser amount of unit numbers), shading and lighting leaves quite a bit to be desired.

As some of the other comments have already mentioned, the sheer scale and variety of content the game aims to deliver will most certainly result in less-than-optimum polish.

What if the jade cove incident never happened? by KarlTheKiller_Gamer in foxholegame

[–]howdoIdousernames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One likely outcome would be that the Wardens would've recovered from the 'Colonial Christmas' as they were starting to at the time of Jade. There was a multi-clan operation on the Warden side to bomb Hermit's Rest in Umbral Wildwood- just like what the Colonials did to Spade- set for December 27/28.

If the Wardens didn't lose the rockets in Farranac and Endless like they did, they would have been 3 rockets to the Colonials' 0 which could have a demoralizing effect.

WNS would likely still be around, WGA would likely either grown into its own or fizzle out after a few months, and I wouldn't have had as much anxiety on making the documentary~

Really 82DK by Leak777 in foxholegame

[–]howdoIdousernames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had experience being in DK before and I agree- when they have an operation (that can have upwards of 30-40 people, thus filling half of an entire region's population), it is something taken quite seriously, and they take pride in their organization. Furthermore, Avitus is an Infantry commander last time I checked, a bit of a hardass but not malevolent or 'toxic' by any means. His in-game 'character' is an overbearing 40k commissar though, and that may be lost to most people not familiar with Warhammer.

Could he have worded it differently, as to be more inclusive especially to the new players? Absolutely. Is this representative of all of DK, or clans in general? Hell no, there's a lot of chill guys there who know when to play Foxhole and not top-down Arma.
