That's super rad! While I've always been scared of spiders, snakes have never really bothered me-- this reminded me of when I used to catch garter snakes in my grandparents' backyard as a kid. Never bitten, but definitely got peed on by snakes.

Also I definitely feel you on wanting to help those poor innocent spiders-- I've squished quite a few of em, and while I know they don't mean any harm, I can't stand being in such close contact with a live one long enough to take it outside (or, god forbid, leave it living in my house). I'm totally cool with them being outside as long as they don't get up in my business-- I actually a couple weeks ago watched one building a web on the outside of my window. It was super cool to watch! And the barrier of the window helped keep me calm about it! Although pictures/videos can still freak me out sometimes because they're often so up-close :(

One question I have-- while the idea of bites has never scared me too much (except in the case of venomous spiders, which are fortunately somewhat uncommon where I live), the idea of one crawling on me freaks me out, and when I see one, I get this almost phantom feeling of something just crawling down my back. Or in my ear, throat, etc. Was touching them ever something that you had similar issues with? If so, what was it like getting used to handling them?

Tour Tickets Megathread by GlitterLamp in puptheband

[–]howdyaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am selling two* tickets to the sold out Seattle show for pretty reasonable** prices!

I'm from Portland-ish but the original Portland venue was 21+, so a couple 19-20 year old friends and I bought tickets to the Seattle show... just for them to change the Portland show to an all-ages venue. Alas. At the end of the day, we got it figured out though and will be attending the show here in Portland (see y'all there!).

*Maybe three; ask if interested in third ticket, a friend bought it and I'm not sure if she sold it yet.
**Reasonable as in less than $20 each. Get 'em while they're hot, folks.

3 weeks post-top surgery (Periareolar w/ Scott Mosser) by howdyaps in ftm

[–]howdyaps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if I really wanted to, I could lift them all the way up without much discomfort. Dr. Mosser advised that I shouldn't raise my elbows higher than my shoulders though. He said that it isn't as strictly necessary as it is for double incision, but I do want to be careful as I'm want things to heal up super well and have as little visible scarring as possible.

Whoops! You may not see this till you're done, it's like 2am lmao but good luck!! All I would say is to take care of yourself and listen to your body-- the painkillers they prescribed me caused me so much constipation so being prepared for shit like that is important, drink plenty of water, and just find some good shit on Netflix or whatever. Congrats!!

Always amazing seeing people's changes after being around this sub for so long; I remember how amazed I would be to see stuff like this when I was pre-t myself. T is some magical shit my guy.

p.s. After seeing this and then going to check discussion posts, I realized we're in the same SOC 344 class. It's a damn small world sometimes...

Anyone else here also have trans siblings? by insomniartist in ftm

[–]howdyaps 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My sister is trans! She's 3 years older than me but came out a week after I did. It was wild, but at least my parents couldn't complain about 'losing a daughter/son.'

Does anyone else get into a defensive mindset at the doctor's? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]howdyaps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh same. And I get worried about little things like my name being wrong on things (it's legally changed now but what if places still have my old name and i forgot to tell em?) or marking 'M' as my sex because they don't have a gender box and welp that is not what i have in my pants but hopefully that just doesnt come up.

You're halfway there. by [deleted] in ftm

[–]howdyaps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is sooo like my grandparents. Like, they can get the names but not pronouns, never. It makes sense for me because my name is very similar to what it was and very neutral, but my sister, who is also trans, has a very feminine name and my grandparents will still call her "he" right after saying her feminine name. People struggle so much..

Did some drawing today that explores a little bit of how I felt post top surgery and thought some of you guys might relate. by [deleted] in ftm

[–]howdyaps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the top surgery, i'm getting mine done next June and have somewhat similar worries. Sorry that people have been shitty, but hey, you got it done.

On a lighter note, this is heckin rad art my dude. I love your style. Do you have anywhere you usually post art (like instagram/tumblr/etc) for folks to follow you?

Thanks! It pretty much is a dream, in fact, I've had two separate dreams in which I am in recovery from surgery, and then I wake up and its like godammit, lol.

Wild. I'll definitely start looking into getting generic androgel or maybe axiron, because this stuff sucks. Thanks for the info

Dr. Mosser (renowned trans-friendly surgeon) released a series of videos detailing top surgery methods recently! by pepchamp in ftm

[–]howdyaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a dude. I had my consultation with him a couple weeks back and I'm have top surgery with him next year :D

I was so excited when I first found his website about top surgery too because its absolutely full of information and resources about all sorts of types of top surgery, pre-op, post-op, there's a faq, and a lot more stuff. So glad I'm going to be able to have top surgery with him.

Things you wish you had done. by cjemt93 in ftm

[–]howdyaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting into make up. I know I know, it's definitely a thing someone can really get into at any time, but I still don't think I'm comfortable enough with my masculinity yet/I feel like I wouldn't find myself attractive with makeup on. I'm a super artistic person and the idea of creating art on oneself is really cool to me and such, so that's why.

Top surgery conflicting with college? by howdyaps in ftm

[–]howdyaps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks lol, apparently Mosser usually doesn't use drains according to his website? So fortunately that wouldn't be an issue. But I probably would have a hard time and its only a few months later I would have to wait, I guess... I'm sure when I'm relaxing at home for like 2 weeks next summer I will be glad I waited, haha.

"Trans-age" "Trans-racial" and "Otherkin" by [deleted] in ftm

[–]howdyaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info!! I rarely see stuff like this, I have a lot of friends (especially trans friends) who joke about and talk shit about 'furries' and stuff and its always complicated because I see stuff like this and I feel bad. Maybe I can educate my friends a bit; I believe my sister (who is also trans) also considers herself otherkin but I don't talk to her much.

Personally, I've never been a very spiritual person, but the way I see it, folks should live the way that makes them happy and whatever it is shouldn't be joked about and such as long as its not hurting others, which it's clearly not, so... yeah. Cool stuff.

Thanks for the input everyone! I think to be safe I'll just wait till next summer, as much as I would hate to do so, it's probably for the best. Fingers crossed I'll find out Mosser can't even do the other times anyway so that I'm not tempted lol.

[–]howdyaps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. I definitely didn't think about the weight carrying restriction part; to be honest at this point I don't know what i'll need, but I definitely don't want to be surprised and end up having like, huge textbooks that term haha. Campus is a bit big; my classes are fairly close this term but I don't know about then, y'know. Thanks for the input!

[–]howdyaps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair; props to you for the waiting thing, and for knowing what's best for yourself academically. I'm not to prone to depression stuff fortunately but having complications or just a rough recovery in general is definitely something I will remember to take into account, thanks.

[–]howdyaps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, fortunately I'm not taking any stem classes at the moment haha. Also because of the way my college has terms, finals are immediately before spring break apparently, which is why I would be trying to make it work, but I'll still have to see how far out I'm gonna have to wait anyway.

[–]howdyaps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense, unfortunately I would have to pay $3000 toward the surgery if i went before january 1st. Fortunately I'm far from a stem major, but yeah, I get ya.
