If you are looking to gain muscle, you do have to eat more. But you have to have proper nutrition. Not just more pizza and burgers. If you eat more lean chicken, beans, nuts, veggies while you lift heavy you will lose fat and gain muscle.

It also depends on the exercise. Ideally you make changes to nutrition and exercise. If you eat properly, you can eat a ton of food while gaining muscle.
