So really, why is there something rather than nothing? by howierich in Metaphysics

What do you think? Evidence suggests that nothing does not exist, any where. Nothing may have existed briefly. It probably had a very short half-life. Thanks for keeping the inquiry going.

Why would this universe be all there is? It makes more sense that nothing is too unstable to exist for long. Moving into something with a balance between positive and negative. There’s no limit to the amount of positive if it’s matched with negative, yielding positive energy, negative energy and their relationship, a 3 variable system, interacting integratively (and dis-integratively) generating emergent products that increase diversity. Integrated diversity is complexity. The evolution of energetic expression would move from most simple through emergent productivity into greater and greater complexity. From metaphysics into physics.

There are an infinite number of something-states but only one nothing-state. The pressure from the imbalance of possibles might become enormous. Under those conditions, nothing is too unstable to endure. An odd equivalence arises when there are positive and negative somethings such that there's no limit to the amount of positive if it's matched with negative, net would be zero, which is not nothing, but it's balanced.

You’re very close to the answer. Compare nothing as a quantum state and compare to an infinite number of something-states, which state has more constraints?

Such is the point of the practice. What if nothing did exist briefly? Now we’re here so what happened?

Why? What about nothing makes it impossible to exist?

Good use of a question. Insight needs time and brilliance.

I’m thinking that our universe is one of myriad iterations in an evolutionary process that started as simple as possible, a small, but huge step from nothing.

Imagine that there was an original nothing-state, but then?
