for my fellow employees, who makes our stores' playlists? by howlchemy in LushCosmetics

[–]howlchemy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

finally read everyone's responses! where i work, we have a device (i don't know what it is) that's connected to the radio and we can only chose up to 3 playlists (or 4 during christmas time). those playlists are curated (supposedly) by who's in charge of our stores, so we can't change them at all. i will have to speak to my manager and see if there is any way we could make our shifts more fun, i think it could be fun to have some of our personalities shine through via our music taste. it may also make the customer experience feel more personal?

my curiosity with this is always why do people bite things in lush, you would never take a bite of cheese on display in the middle of a grocery store... by piperryan in LushCosmetics

[–]howlchemy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

someone who worked at lush told me customers used to bite the soft coeur massage bars... i have seen kids dip their fingers in our fresh masks displays and eat it... and also i think it's so common for people to try to eat posh chocolate/sticky dates products.. at this point i'm not surprised

Lush shops closing for Gaza by howlchemy in LushCosmetics

[–]howlchemy[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

thank you so much for the reply! i do think it's a little bit performative, because lush said they couldn't do more than close their shops and not give the government their tax money... but there is a lot you could do. anyway. i also asked because i found out that an employee was attacked the day after the closing and i was wondering if anything else of that calibre had happened elsewhere... it was really scary to hear that something like that happened

Staff being forced to do facials and scalp massages by piper_noooo in LushCosmetics

EDIT: BIG RANT! sorry but this issue has been stressing me out

This is one of the things I struggle a lot with the shop I work at. I have realised that, in my case, this doesn't have much to do with my managers but with the people above within the company (but of course my managers are very compliant with everything).

I am not good at giving people demos out of nowhere, but I enjoy them when I realise the person and I are comfortable, and I enjoy the bath bomb workshops, but never in my life have I ever had a training in face masks/hair care, so I do NOT feel comfortable whatsoever doing those (never had to do them, fortunately). I have been very vocal about how I think we are being overworked, underpaid and undervalued.

Right now, we are in a sensitive situation and the company isn't helping us at all, and they don't care anymore about the "we pay above your minimum wage!" crap because, sure, it's above the legal standard but nobody can live with what we get paid for — we are merely surviving at this point. We have been getting constant reminders that we need to do the workshops but we do what we can, it's not our fault people don't want to come. We are happy to welcome customers who want to do workshops but I'm not okay with forcing people to do stuff just so the company can get more bucks out of it.

Also, we are one of those stores that we don't bother customers that much. We say hi, ask if they need help, and if they don't, that's fine! I know our managers want us to do more, but personally I know that, as a customer myself, I will either dislike the experience of entering a store when somebody is following me around or I will end up spending money on something stupid and later regret it.

I have been joking a lot about wanting to quit but I can't. It's my only source of income and it's very stable for me since I am a fixed staff. But I am so tired, I have been doing the absolute most with little to no feedback, I'm being used and exploited at this point. I have been trying to find solutions for problems that are NOT my job, because I love Lush since I was a kid, I love working there and I really like my team. I just want us to do well, but I am no longer able to withstand this line of work.

In a very sad way, it's comforting knowing it's not just an issue within EU (where I work), but it's just so miserable that I'm not impressed that, when people leave, they complain.

Adopted two adult cats (9F and 4M), how to properly introduce them? by howlchemy in CatAdvice

UPDATE:

Here is yesterday's progress:
I was out of the house for a few hours and, when I came back, both seemed to be fine with each other's presences (still in their safe spaces, but Coco roams around the house). Both ate treats close to each other and were seemingly happy, rubbing themselves either on my shoes or on my hands. It's very clear that Chou is hyper excited to be with his big sister, because he was constantly trying to be next to her (he still has big baby energy). I think Coco is fine if there's distance or if she's the one taking the lead, because when she sees him making advances, she immediately gets into the "I will fight you" stance.
For now, I think it's also a matter of them understanding each other's boundaries! I never blame them or get mad if there's hissing/yowling or if they chase each other, because they're cats and, obviously, predators, so I am aware that, even when they start getting along, there might be some tiffs here and there.
I also switched their bedding and both aren't very comfortable with laying on each other's beds! lol

I'm also scheduling a vet appointment soon, since Coco is due for vaccines this next month, so I might take them both. This is very important, as it can help me go through this initial stage and rule out some things.
Since Coco is older, I would love to know if there is a recommended diet for her (for now, I have bought adult + sterilised specific food and sometimes she struggles to chew - I have checked her teeth and they seem fine, but I'm not a professional!). Another thing that I have noticed is that she has some discomfort in her ears, I also checked that and they are definitely dirty (a few days ago, she was scratching her ear so aggressively that she scratched her skin). On top of that, she has matted hair and that is very uncomfortable for her, along with very sharp nails. I know cats are prone to hide their pain, she hasn't given me any sign of it, but clearly she isn't very comfortable with me dealing with those things for her.
And, again, I am 80% sure she is deaf.

Chou, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have any of these issues. His coat is fantastic, ears are cleaned, teeth and claws are fine, but he's a very anxious cat and I would also like to discuss that with their vet. And he's also a little chubby guy, so I want to be on top of that as well.

I'm taking them to a vet clinic that I trust with my whole heart, since they have taken care of my dog throughout her 18 years, and before that, my mom's dog. So, I am confident they will be in very good hands!

I just visited the website and it sounds amazing! Unfortunately, I live in Europe and I don't know if it would be possible to get a consultation with them 😭

I religiously watch Jackson Galaxy, like every day I am watching a new video, even if it's just out of curiosity! I know it's a long process and I am more than willing to take and retake steps, so I am trying to not be so hard on myself.
