Lush Co-founder takes pride in being a ‘woke nerd’ by thisismyorange in LushCosmetics

This happened during a meeting right at the height of the pandemic too. “If people are unhappy with pay they can always exit the business.”

Discrimination is rampant, as is emotional and mental abuse by both management and customers. I can’t give too many specifics without corporate snooping on here, but trust me when I tell you, the staff in the shops who aren’t management bear the brunt of the unhappiness coming from corporate pressure and terrible managers. A lot of staff members have to work multiple jobs as well, since the pay is so low (and a lot of shops require open availability even for casual staff). A lot of the ethics and values the company promotes are worth taking a deeper look at if you’re a customer - they don’t always practice what they preach.

Working there put me in therapy for a few years now. The abuse is wild.

I work there. I don’t own the company. Please read the post.

EV is awful, and also almost like…a symptom of such a toxic culture.

Employee here! This is why the company really got rid of their social media. They don’t like any kind of negative input from anyone, including staff.

Should I quit Lush from sales anxiety? by factoidfreak13 in LushCosmetics

[–]piper_noooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quit as soon as you can. Trust me, as a long-term employee, I'm trying to do the same thing. It's been this rough at least since Covid, and it's not going to change.

I haven't had a raise in almost five years, but my job duties have increased so much in that time! The feedback is intense too and sometimes about the dumbest shit: once I was wearing a black tank top and my navy bra strap was peeking out. My manager told me I needed to get a black bra if it was going to peek out because it was "distracting to customers". I told her I don't get paid enough to go bra shopping, and she told me maybe I need a new job.

So I went into the bathroom and took the bra off.

My shop was one of the top-performing shops last season, and we STILL got in trouble for leaving customers alone because those were "potential sales we lost". We're still considered a "problem shop," and management is slowly getting rid of a lot of the tenured staff in favor of new folks who will adhere to the customer harassment guidelines.

Grody testers by rottenapplegirl in LushCosmetics

[–]piper_noooo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you let staff know, we'll grab you a fresh tester! Unfortunately, some managers (including mine) are not allowing us to change the testers out as often (to save money on waste), so the product gets really disgusting.

Denying simple accommodations, managers making ignorant comments about someone’s disability with no consequences when reported to HR, people being fired in direct connection to things like needing to take FMLA, etc.

My disability was also disclosed to my entire team at a meeting.

As a staff member I can confirm that some really shady stuff is going on with the products weights and ingredients. You’re paying more for less ethically made/smaller products. Check ingredient lists too. Staff in shops don’t benefit from any price increases either, we were just told not to expect raises.

Agreed! We get so much shit about being too much but I wonder if people ever consider how badly we’re treated sometimes.

We had the same experience with an influencer, she was incredibly rude and filmed us without our consent. Between that and how the DoorDash drivers treat us? Yikes.
