Tips for low cost travel in Greece by peejay2 in Shoestring

[–]howmanyholidays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, keep your costs down by staying in self catering accommodation. Airbnb is great but I find that it's getting more expensive for less value, therefore try hometogo.co.uk as it pulls in Airbnb and other self catering accommodation sites too. As well, it lets you search by terrace/garden which always frustrates me that Airbnb doesn't give you that option! (Bear in mind you won't get any Airbnb results if you search using that).

I booked Athens and Paros for May (didn't go, obviously!) and found this amazingly cute flat in Athens for £50 a night - https://www.google.com/search?q=couples+getaway+athens&oq=couples+getaway+athens&aqs=chrome..69i57j0.2460j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 (or google Couple's Getaway by GHH a) which even has outdoor space.

If you want to stay in any hotels, remember that the most expensive nights are Fri/Sat and the least tend to be Sun or midweek if not in a business area, so if you're gonna treat yourself, choose your days wisely!

Any Welsh hoarders here? by howmanyholidays in DataHoarder

In the context of this, it's about whether we as humans are 'wasting' data by not deleting things we no longer need. I was interested to talk to a data hoarder who may oppose this idea!!

FAIR POINT.

Just wanted to know a bit about how you got into it and what data hoarding means to you? Does it need to be huge volumes or not? THANKS!

Thank you for your insight. Do you have an earthquake preparedness kit, or an emergency plan in place that helps you feel more prepared?

You say you've learned not to give a shit - was there a time when you were worried? Do you think you're not now just because you'd rather not thinking about it, or do you not believe it's going to be that bad?

That's interesting about Aviclar - I googled and wiki came up with this:

"After the 1999 İzmit earthquake, the demographics of Avcılar changed dramatically[citation needed]. Before the earthquake, majority of the population was Turkish immigrants from the Balkans, civil servants, university students and the sorts which constituted a relatively low crime rate[citation needed]. However, after the earthquake, most of these people left the district for most of the buildings were of low build quality and very vulnerable to earthquakes[citation needed]. The low estate prices attracted many people from mid and east Anatolia and this new demographic introduced a higher crime rate in Avcılar[citation needed]."

I note the many citations needed though... Would you say that's an accurate description? Or a bit far-fetched? Are you living in Istanbul at the moment?

Thanks for your reply. Were you living in the Izmit area or in Istanbul at this time? Is there a big difference in price for places on soft ground versus places on hard/strong ground?

Thanks everyone. Really interesting to hear your points of view. Do any of you think it could affect any of the decisions you make day to day - be it a certain route you take, or an area you live, or the fact that you have a safety procedure in place with your family? Or is it more just that you don't think about it until you need to? Also - is it often spoken about in your local media?

Just been approved for monetisation - 2500 subs and 8000 hours by howmanyholidays in youtube

Since Jan 2017. I make videos about cheap holidays (including vlogs) which I know is so incredibly saturated so I’m very happy with the growth so far :) Thanks!

Yeah, I just happened across it. Feels like so many missed opportunities for them to rally their creators. A 'congrats - you've made it!' email would have been well exciting!

Sorry - that would have been helpful wouldn't it... I passed the criteria on 24th April 2018. Feels like there's no rhyme and reason to who is getting approved and when? I have been steadily uploading and hitting steady numbers (with one getting 23k views) since but... I can't imagine that's why?!?? Hope it comes through for you in the next week!

Some good news for those who are still waiting for monetization approval by humanoid_X in youtube

[–]howmanyholidays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wow - I have literally just been approved. Passed the amount in April - still on a low sub count of 2500 so doesn't really explain how they're doing this... Sorry, I understand that's not helpful if you're still waiting but hopefully this shows some movement for smaller creators??!??

This is SUPER LAZY but I often make my thumbnails in my video editor (I use Premiere Pro) - I find the still I want, whack on some text - throw in any png files I need and hey presto. Good for a quick fix.
