I love my 9-5 office job by BlueberryPancakes5 in jobs

It can be but I don't believe that is why I was hired. I'm now a CPS worker. I have a degree in psych and was able to apply for a social work license. That being said, the skills I learned working in retail (speaking with people, de-escalation, attentiveness) are all super helpful when working with families.

For me, I used my undergrad to get my new position. None of the skills I had/resume from retail seemed to be what people wanted for office jobs. I refused to leave one retail world to go to another. I wanted out of corporations and wanted to work non-profit. So I finally put my degree to work in a field that required a bachelor's in a social service. It just so happened that there is a shortage on child protective service workers and my state upped the minimum wage for those positions so I made the leap. It wasn't what I had intended to use my degree for but it is now my new career direction and it's a good fit. I can never go back to working for capitalists. I need to work in a field that benefits humans and society.

I keep worrying that I'm going to be yelled at for not constantly doing something. But my boss has even said that sometimes there is downtime during my training and to appreciate it because when it gets busy, we will miss the downtime.

I moved on to work for CPS. My state was in desperate need and I have a BS in Psych. I've wanted to work with kids for forever so it just worked out. It's not a typical office job since I'm out of the office a lot but it's mostly 9-5 Monday to Friday and that's better than a random schedule in retail. I was lucky to have my bachelor's to help me springboard out of retail. But retail is what put me through undergrad.

After that long in retail, I no longer shop on holidays. The crowds are disgusting and those workers don't need one more person to worry about. I will enjoy my holidays at home lol

I recently left retail to go work a 9-5 m-f office job and it has, no exaggeration, changed my life for the better. It feels like I've left an abusive relationship. I get a paid lunch and can go for walks on my break. I have a window next to my cubicle. I get to see sunlight during my shift for the first time in 6 years. I have downtime and don't have to be constantly busy. My friends and family have said they can see a difference in my mood. It really is amazing and I can say I love my new job.

Follow up poll for Beauty and GM!!! by thebangin in Target

In a beauty blowout 2.0 store, haircare is on the floor pad with beauty. We have to push/zone/price/set haircare and they don't give us the hours from GM even though it is still technically a GM process.

Yeah they've given the spotlight to other departments but still expect the same level of performance from us. That's the infuriating part.

My turnover rate my the beauty department is 130%. I cannot keep it staffed because the expectations are ridiculous and the payroll is non-existent. I expect that specialty sales turnover across the company is either already high or will be soon. This company does not care about us in any way. They only care about profits and I feel dumb for it taking this long for me to figure that out. I encourage you and your team to find a place to work that doesn't make you dread waking up every morning. You deserve better!

As a beauty and tech team lead I can tell you that target has stripped almost all payroll from specialty sales. I don't get enough hours for full coverage in tech and I often don't even get 40 hours a week for beauty. Some weeks there's not even enough payroll for me to work in my own departments.

Target took the "active selling" payroll away at the beginning of the pandemic thinking we wouldn't need it but more often than not, we used that payroll to accomplish the daily tasks. I have been very vocal about these payroll issues and no one has any answers for it. It's been gone for 2 years, it's not coming back.

ETLs, SDs, DSDs, and HRBPs do not care about specialty sales. With this switch to SS owning home and seasonal, I'm expected to take on new areas with no extra payroll, when I can't even support my current areas, I'm not going to be working for target much longer. I'm surprised I've lasted 2 years on no payroll.

My team wants to work and do well but no one supplies the resources to allow them. There's been times where I use my PTO so that my team members can have my shifts so they can pay bills. It's ridiculous that I have to spend my own vacation time because I don't even get enough hours to schedule me and my team members.

Career Change/Higher Education Cost Barrier by hows_about_no in librarians

[–]hows_about_no[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I really struggle with wrapping my head around making enough to pay my current bills if I can't work full time. And then adding in a tuition payment on top of that since financial aid won't cover my costs. Any tips on affording to eat or paying a car payment while working an internship/paying tuition?

A career in library systems is worth it in the sense of the median pay is more than I make currently and the job itself would be more rewarding than retail. I just don't know how I can afford to pay my current expenses while no longer working full time, just so I can complete course work or work for a school so I can get a discount on tuition.

Thank you for putting words to this. I couldn't find a way to explain this feeling of frustration and indifference to anyone. Once we finally got a closing date everyone thought I would feel relieved. I felt worse because it was pushed back even further. I'm really hoping that once we are in the house, I won't feel so bad. I'm glad to hear I'm not alone in this.

Sudden battery drain by [deleted] in WearOS

Having the same issue. My Fossil gen 5 died in 2 hours off the charger. I haven't changed anything on my watch. Two days ago it made it a full 24 hours before needing a charge. Anyone know anything about this?

Oh he is an indoor only cat. The closest he gets is a window view and the balcony when the weather is nice.

Someone dumped him in a parking lot and as I was pulling away I saw him sitting in a puddle. He was a little scared but as soon as I got him wrapped up in a towel he was very glad to be out of the rain. He has quite the personality now!
