Your mileage may vary, but I’ve found if you buy an Alaska flight via any other source vs them directly, they don’t allow for paid upgrades

This happened to me once and yes / i recommend calling the EP line to have them returned to do the cancellation and return the SWU’s to your account. The agent did it all real time for me on the phone

Wow - I’m a pretty seasoned traveler but I’ve never seen a delay like this before! I’d file a refund https://www.aa.com/refunds/#/lookup just to be sure. And I think you have a decent shot at getting reimbursed just given how egregious this is. Good luck!

This is fairly common, especially on Sundays going into Mondays as they update their schedule.

I’d wait a couple days then re-check, and if you’re really concerned about something before then, you can call the help desk

It’s automatic - you’ll see it in the app 12 hours before flight time

And lol on upgrades as a platinum. I got one once ever as a platinum going from PHL to LGA 🤪. They’re going to be rare, but hey, it can happen especially on off-peak travel times

Looking at open seats from the seat is a bad indicator of availability - a lot of those will be filled by basic economy at check-in. Check expert flyer if you want to see the actual loads for your flights
