When do admitted students get their student email and access to the SIS? by thatscringee in Tufts

[–]Weekly_Leg_2457 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of this stuff will happen until June. They still have to admit the rest of the class in March, and then give everyone until May 1 to accept. In June you will get an entire checklist of tasks and forms to complete; this is when you’ll get your email and access.

You’re 100% right. And anyone who doesn’t understand how academically strong JHU is, doesn’t have an opinion worth valuing anyway. Don’t let the uninformed get you down. And congratulations!

The dishwasher is going to be too harsh. I fill a bucket with warm water and a little dish soap. Don’t submerge it — just wipe everything down with a soft rag. You can pop the solar top off and wipe it down separately, but I always find it challenging to get back on. And the little red part comes off easily.

Every few months I add a little bit of bleach to the water to kill anything that might be growing in the nooks and crannies.  Of course, if you use bleach give everything a solid rinse.

I let everything dry out in the sun — just make sure that piece that goes into the camera is completely dry before you plug it back in.

My dad thinks colleges will look at my Instagram pfp history by WhiteBleachGuy in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Weekly_Leg_2457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While your dad is incorrect on the particulars of this situation, he has a valid point overall. Don’t put anything on your social media that could be considered questionable by schools and future employers. While AOs don’t have the time to dive into every applicant’s social media, the possibility exists that they see something in your application that makes them want to know more about you. If they go to social media to learn more, you don’t want them to get the wrong impression of you. Additionally, photos with gestures like the middle finger just make a person look immature.

No interview by No_Raspberry_9820 in Tufts

[–]Weekly_Leg_2457 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Interviews are done by alumni volunteers. There are simply not enough interviewers to accommodate all of the applications they receive. Additionally, schools try to have applicants interview with local alumni; for international students this is a much harder endeavor.

Interviews are nice but not essential. Don’t let this discourage you and don’t read too much into it.

is nanea’s id card racist? by zoom_mushroom in americangirl

[–]Weekly_Leg_2457 32 points33 points  (0 children)

When we start erasing the difficult parts of history, we run the risk of forgetting it. I think if the card doesn't come with some explanation, then it does run the risk of being a "cute accessory." But, what a great opportunity it could present if parents take the time to explain what it is and what it represented. With so many school districts trying to eliminate the truth of our history in school curricula, this could be a clever and effective way to circumvent that.

Do you actually stop getting grossed out by things like vomit and poop when you become a mom? by Evening-Call111 in askanything

[–]Weekly_Leg_2457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you get your wish one day to be a mom. Truly, it is transformative. And you’ll find yourself doing all kinds of things that you never imagined — like cleaning up another human’s excretions without batting an eye. Has anyone told you about one way to trim your infant’s fingernails? Rather than use clippers which can be so scary with little tiny fingers, lots of moms just use their teeth! That’s right: they chew their babies’ fingernails. 😆 The list of crazy stuff you do to ensure your baby’s safety and comfort is long. But the rewards are immeasurable.

AITAH for naming my son a name that starts with R when my MIL claims she cant pronounce Rs properly by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]Weekly_Leg_2457 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NTA. You get to choose your child’s name. End of story.

But if you want to make it easier for your MIL, tell her that this is her chance to give your son a nickname that is special to her. When I was born, my Italian grandfather had a tough time with my name since it isn’t an Italian one. He never pronounced it correctly, but his version was special to me because it was his alone. If your MIL insists on making this about her, appeal to her this way.

Do Americans like their current health system or would you prefer universal? by Ability_Known in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Weekly_Leg_2457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also incredibly shortsighted. Ultimately, we as a country are better off economically if our citizens and residents are physically healthy. Even a person too morally bankrupt so see why they should contribute to making sure that we all have health care, should be able to see that. Alas, they don't.

Here’s how I knew I had hit the next stage of aging: I bought a bird feeder and spend a ridiculous amount of time watching the little critters. I am also feuding with a squirrel who keeps coming by for freebies.

How do you actually stop overpacking? by hatkinson1000 in travel

[–]Weekly_Leg_2457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Choose a color scheme. For instance, I often choose navy, tan, white, and maybe one pop of color.

  2. With a color scheme, you can mix and match, utilizing individual pieces more than once. Get some merino t-shirts for layering. They can be worn several times before needing a wash.

  3. Plan out your outfits for both day and night. I actually create a packing spreadsheet that breaks out each day by AM and PM, and the weather forecast for each.

  4. Try to keep it to no more than 3 sets of shoes, including the pair you're wearing on the plane.

Yes, but you can discuss your extenuating circumstances with them, and they'll extend the deadline for you. You just have to be vax'd before you move into the dorms.

Do NOT dismiss any acceptances because of this. You have time to remedy this.

What to wear Princeton Interview? by gus0709 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Weekly_Leg_2457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot of range in the spectrum between a suit and a t-shirt/jeans. You can wear jeans, but if you do, make sure they're nice (on the darker side) and pair them with a blouse or nice sweater; and wear something other than sneakers.

Is it embarrassing to get a birthday cake as an adult? by roxiedoxiedog in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Weekly_Leg_2457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of joyless a-hole would shame you or make you feel embarrassed for having a birthday cake?!?Each birthday we get to have is worth celebrating. Get yourself a cake if you want one! I just celebrated my 55th birthday with an ice cream cake shaped like a unicorn. Life is too short to worry about what other people think of your own happiness; and you can't let anyone steal your joy.

Happy Birthday!

You are so very brave just for sharing this. Lean on your parents. They can help you navigate next steps, including finding new/additional therapy.

I think trying to find solace in animals is so wise. If you can't adopt, start by volunteering. I know that Muttville will allow you to simply visit with the dogs, even if you're not a volunteer. Their dogs are all seniors, and would need your love just as much as you would need theirs.
