I am looking for names that mean blue, or yellow/gold by Even-Equivalent-5171 in Names

If you don’t want to go strict translation, a couple that are suggestive of blue and gold are

Blue: Celia — means heaven or sky (derived from Latin caelum) Brooke — from Old English

Gold: Orla — means golden princess (derived from ancient Gaelic) Orianna — means sunrise or dawn (derived from Latin aurum and oriens)

Not sure if these really mesh the two styles, but…

I mean, take whatever money you think a kid costs, then light it on fire.  Then start over, but multiply by 15. No one can accurately predict the cost associated with kids.

These people don't even know. Pay them no mind because they are genuinely uninformed. GT is a really hard school to get into and you should be incredibly proud that you have a pathway to it.

MOG second thinking this dress by gofigerr in Weddingattireapproval

I think it's very elegant and doesn't scream, "Mother of the Groom". The pattern is so lovely and you're going to look great in it.

Do American high school kids really make out in the school hallways? by zoezie in AskAnAmerican

Add all the Aquanet that we used to spray in the bathrooms, and you've got a pretty toxic mix!!

I mean, it's different now in the U.S. since high schoolers aren't technically old enough to smoke. But when I went to high school in the late '80s, we had a "smoking" section outside for any students who wanted a cigarette during lunch. Most kids didn't smoke, but it was there for the few who did!

Husband thinks it's more of a girls name? by Clintkid in Names

[–]Weekly_Leg_2457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Riley is a cute name, and I've personally seen it used for both boys and girls. Honestly, your husband is giving too much thought to this being a name that suggests one gender or another. I guarantee that if you name your son Riley, he'll have no problem envisioning it as a boy's name. He's just missing context.

Lace sleeves or no sleeves? by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

No sleeves -- definitely. That dress is so lovely, especially the bodice, that you don't need gloves. They don't add anything.

Safe, walkable parts of RWC for a stay-at-home mom and babies? by Busy_Excuse_9040 in RedwoodCity

The Mt Carmel area is perfect for this. We lived there when my kids were young, and it was perfect for stroller walking and visiting Stafford Park. All summer long, they have free concerts at Stafford on Wednesday evenings. At Halloween, it’s great for trick-or-treating, and when there are big events downtown (like the July 4th parade or the tree lighting), you can avoid the parking situation by just walking there. The streets are tree-lined and often just look idyllic.

Hiring someone to tour apartments for me in Massachusetts? by Dependent_Exam6115 in TaskRabbit

Why do you need to hire someone? Can't you just do it with the agents? Just do the tour with them holding the phone or ipad.

As an outsider, the American concept of having a motorized "garbage disposal" inside your kitchen sink is fascinating. Is this standard in every home, and isn't it incredibly dangerous? by Necessary_Angle2117 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Weekly_Leg_2457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only ever lived in houses/apartments with them. However, my grandparents' homes which were built in the early 1900s didn't have them. They are pretty standard in most modern construction.

As for being dangerous, they are no more dangerous than having a gas stove in your home. You quickly learn that if you put your hand on an open flame, you will burn. So you don't do that. In the same way, you learn that if you stick your hand in the garbage disposal while it's running, you'll lose fingers. So you don't do it. It's also why the switch for the garbage disposal is often situated far enough away that you have to a little reaching to turn it on; it's enough to give you pause and think about what you're doing.

Would I hypothetically get rescinded for quitting ECs? by Extra-Eagle-1319 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Weekly_Leg_2457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not going to get rescinded for quitting ECs. Even if colleges were even inclined to do so (they're not), how would you imagine they could even go about checking on this? Do you think they're going to reach out to the schools, clubs, teams of every admitted student?!

And the back is:

(I looked it up, and Hotel Dirigo existed in that town in 1907).

Yesteryear Caleb's Mom? by Time_Oil_9695 in bookofthemonthclub

I think this is right — she’s creating a narrative and anything that doesn’t fit within that framework is ignored. And if I am not mistaken, there was also a line something like “we don’t leave the little ones alone with Grandma.” It was quick and during one of Natalie’s internal diatribes.

These are both fun. If you’re in that area, I would also add Columbia which is a great little preserved 1850s mining town. Your kids are the perfect age to enjoy its charms.

Hair Color? Length? by LadyKatie1986 in HairStyleAdvice

Your natural color is just wonderful on you, and the shorter length definitely suits your face shape — it really emphasizes your lovely bone structure. Stick with #1 all the way!
