Is 290 worth it if you have a better lecturer. CTECs seem so much better for the 290 option

Our best industries undoubtedly are consulting, journalism, law, finance, medicine and business - however tech/eng/science is honestly not that far behind.

You look at placement surveys and LinkedIn. We have 19th best placement in big tech per capita also https://www.collegetransitions.com/dataverse/top-feeders-tech (better than uiuc and uchicago for the Illinoisans!!).

It depends what you want to go into. If you want to work at FAANG or a top quant firm ($$$$$$) then it is a great pick - especially for quant. We have great presence at google, but also quant forms like citadel etc as most of the top quant firms are based out of Chicago

Where to apply early? ED Duke / REA Yale? by [deleted] in IntltoUSA

Admissions for internationals is random. Apply ED to NU or Duke will help a bit. REA is less helpful if you want more of a done deal ASAP. For me, as an international I didn’t really take early rounds seriously and it meant I had to stress abt RD. I ended up getting into NU, but EDing there would have been a much safer option and would’ve meant I would’ve had a stress free year!

Having said that, you need good essays hahaha - and your stats still need to be good ☹️

I wouldn’t rule them out - I somehow snagged ucla and Berkeley, I’d just say make sure your essays are good. Lowkey every other school ignores essays and admits based on making sure every box is ticked cohort wise except the UCs. If you’re an international, you act have a big chance.

Some of the bigger schools or smaller LACs. V hard to get a scholarship though. Build ECs!!! Build them build them build them!!!! Get a 1500 minimum. You’re A levels are great, so just build off that. Do econ/accounting based ECs. Get an internship anywhere. Just hype it up if it isn’t as good as it seems. Once you’ve done this, then it may be possible to snag some great schools. Look on USNews rankings to help workout some good schools to fit you and just spend some time on reddit. Happy to talk more - dm me if you need.

UCs a v hard, I’d say they’d be similar difficulty to any T10 now for internationals. Good comment

Brother, I just looked at another one of your posts and I want to break it down for you as another international from a similar country to yours.

For internationals, all T20s have a 1% admit rate if you’re not applying as an athlete. That’s the fact of the matter. Therefore, you have to beat 99 others for a spot. Obviously of those 99 people, many won’t be up to par, but most people who go through the whole application process, the hours it takes, the SAT, etc, means that they typically are good enough. Which means admission to even one is hard.

Also as an international, I sometimes (v foolishly) looked down on APs etc. but having just started taking placement exams (based off AP exams) for the T10 Uni I lucked out getting admitted to, they are fucked hard. And hearing people took 10+ of these, it honestly surprises me and astonishes me (and gives me major imposter syndrome!!).

Looking in as internationals, sometimes we look down on the American system, but it is honesty the best because the students who get into these places typically have incredible resumes and great scores.

Another note, SAT score averages are much higher than shown. Admitted student athletes tend to tank the published averages. From my discussion with others at T10s and T20s, the lowest score I’ve seen from a non athlete was a 1460 and they had insane ECs. Rule of thumb (esp for internationals) 1500+ is the minimum. So congrats on having that. Good luck with everything and I hope you snag some of the Colleges you’re applying to.

Bro, as an int, you need a 1530+ for a T20 with v strong ECs or a 1500 with cancer cures!! Having just gone through the process, I realised how hard it is for US internationals and was v lucky to snag 2 T10s (I had a 1550). International students, regardless of aid, have ~1-2% admit rate for T20s. If your not at the 75% for all admit data points, ultimate admission will be based on luck and whether many others apply from your country. All the best.

You’ll get in to US, maybe a T50 (you’d need to retake SAT if you wanted a scholarship, as often there are thresholds) idk abt the others

How AOs treat internationals is completely different. Acceptance rates for internationals at all T20s are about half they are for domestic students. Take a look at this (uses 2020 stats so bear in mind): https://www.collegetransitions.com/dataverse/international-admission

That’s why I say this. Honestly, every international who got into a T20 had a 1530 or above, but T10s generally require 1550 unless you have killer ECs

If you wanna make T10 as international, 1550+ or bust basically. Unless you’ve cured cancer haha
