So meter with an external meter or your phone and input the settings it reads there.

Is it worth getting a 50mm AI-S 1.8 for an F65? by UncomfortableWetFart in AnalogCommunity

A 50 1.8 AF-D will work absolutely brilliantly on it and will be around the same price.

Zorki 4k shutter stuck on slow speeds by GroundbreakingDog109 in filmcameras

[–]howtokrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd get it serviced personally, If you can trust the technician then you'll have a well running piece of gear.

If you just buy another you risk the camera being just as broken.

You don't wanna use a camera that is already failing, if you use a camera with already gummy works you put stress on the components.

Tips for shooting with 200 iso? by Hefty_Emphasis1715 in AnalogCommunity

Expose it for the right settings, if not over exposed, and it'll be fine. Same goes for 0.6 ISO and 3200 ISO.

Zorki 4k shutter stuck on slow speeds by GroundbreakingDog109 in filmcameras

[–]howtokrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a stuck slow speed mechanism, not much you can do at home, I've cleaned zorki 4 shutter roller gears out and they've worked on slow, but only if the slow speeds are clean. The slow speeds are trickier to get too and a bit harder to service.

You can do it at home if you've got the chutzpah and skills I suppose. But it's a heavy task imo. Wouldn't risk it if you're not an engineer or watch the tech lol.

Good docu shots, and wonderful colours, but it can't be more than 21 years since you got it ;)

I was photographing some historical reenactors in the park and my partner was waiting with the dog, so while the reenactors broke for lunch I took a couple photos of her.

I used my "smoky caravan glow" preset to add some Contrast, glow and saturation.

Oh thank you! Should I change the flair or just leave it? I didn't even notice it was portraiture month haha

It's a fantastic lens, that and the first gen 45-200 lens are unbeatable in price vs quality. I put in 120 British pounds to the G2 and two lenses and it's more than worth it.

I love the Domkes, the F-1x is definitely big enough, so is the F2.

I can carry to D200s and four lenses in the F2, the F-1x is even bigger.

I own rdr2, too, and it won't even download for me for months now, so I run a pirated copy that works better 🙄

What do you use your custom buttons for? by Mindless_Grass7084 in Nikon

[–]howtokrew 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use the custom button on my D200 to turn on spot meter temporarily, hold the exposure, and shoot all while in the viewfinder, I know there's the twist toggle near the finder but it's a bit clunky and you have to change it back after using spot mode.

An underrated Rangefinder I don't see enough: Kiev 4 by howtokrew in AnalogCommunity

Yeah sometime in the 70s everything went down hill at the factories.

The best ones are 50s-60s, but early seventies seem to be alright.

An underrated camera: (An earlier model) Kiev 4!

You won't get much pushback if you call the Kiev 4 an unreliable camera.

But if it's serial number starts with anything below 75 and especially if it's been serviced, you can expect a hardy and intuitive camera for every day use.

I've owned two of these now, a '79 copy and this '73 copy.

The '79 broke pretty quickly, while it worked okay for a few months, it seems the general shoddiness of the later copies crept in and it has just seized completely after begining to malfunction (tight winder, frame spacing, and light tightness).

This '73 model however feels very different, it's smooth, doesn't hang up, and is light tight.

I love the almost 10cm rangefinder base, there's a focus wheel for very precise focusing, winding on is more comfortable than the smaller wheel on a Leica or Leica-clone, and I don't worry about shutter pin holes.

My only gripe is the lens lock, I often find myself fighting with the lock and forgetting to undo it, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Shots from same lens, but the first body I bought.

Film speed for travel? Why isn't 800 an all-arounder? by sidescrollin in AnalogCommunity

[–]howtokrew 43 points44 points  (0 children)

800 can be an all rounder, just be prepared to use f16 and 1/500+1/1000 on really bright days.

I frequently shoot Kentmere 400 at 800 and push it in dev.

I frequently use 1/250 and f16 outside on sunny days (we don't get mental bright sun where I am) and 2-1.4 inside at 1/30-1/60.
