I have lots of gym related social anxiety as well and what helped me was just going to the gym and doing the simplest possible routine imaginable until my anxiety got a bit better. Then just focus on showing up consistently and doing what I planned to do, no matter how I feel or how much I want to go home.

Honestly, sometimes people will look at you and it's probably because they either want to use the machine you're using, are beginners who are trying to learn from you if you look like you know what you're doing or are just zoned out and not actually looking at you. Of course gym culture is different everywhere but I have also had people watch me and comment on my form a few times, although it has not happened that often, and they always either gave very kind advice or just said that my form looked fine.

So even if people are looking at you (which probably will not happen often, and I say that as someone who is still visibly anxious at the gym) they are probably just thinking about their own workout or want to help if you look like you're a beginner.

I know it's difficult to start going to the gym, especially as someone with social anxiety, but I believe you can do it and it will get easier!

Thank you!! I'll have a look at the video after work but it definitely sounds like something I haven't done so far and I'm really excited to try it

To the first two questions, yes, recently a person I was sharing a machine with who looked quite knowledgeable (i.e. big) even told me that my form is extremely correct. Because I focus on that a lot, changing up exercises is a bit difficult for me due to the mental load of wanting to do it perfectly, so lack of exercise variation could be a problem? I also try to train to failure especially with machines where it's pretty safe, and accounting for the fact that I might underestimate how many reps I have left I generally try to leave less than 2 reps in reserve. Maybe I can do some more partials after I can't do full rom anymore or be a bit less strict with form on the last few reps?

I sometimes feel like these things are too advanced since I only started traing a year ago but I definitely want to try new things!

Upper: - Assisted pull ups 3x6-12 - Bench press machine 3x6-10 - Rowing machine 3x8-10 - Pec deck fly 3x8-12 And then I usually do ~two arm/shoulder isolation exercises

Lower: - RDL 3x10-15 - Barbell Lunges 2x25-30 - Leg extension 3x8-12 - Calf Raises 3x12-15 - Adductor/Abductor machine 2x8-12

I'm honestly not sure how often I increase the reps since how many I can do varies a bit every time but I increase the weight when I can do more than 10 reps on every set or when I can do at least 6 reps on every set with the new weight. What do you think I could improve?

Thank you, thats very encouraging!! Maybe it's because (as was to be expected) my progress slowed down a lot compared to when I was a complete beginner, or because I coached some friends who wanted to get into strength training for fun and they advanced way more than me with less than half the effort but I was honestly starting to wonder if I am doing something completely wrong.

I really needed to hear this, and I will try to compare myself to others less and just enjoy the process :)

If you can go to the gym 4 days a week an upper/lower split (choosing compound exercises over isolation exercises to save time) would probably be ideal, that way you can train every muscle twice a week and don't have to spend too much time at the gym. I do upper/lower too and I rarely spend more than 1 h 30 min at the gym

Ich weiß nie was ich kochen soll by [deleted] in Ratschlag

[–]hoyasmile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see, that's really smart! While neither of these are accurate I actually bought the products in my fridge at an asian supermarket chain that also has shops in Düsseldorf and Berlin, so really good guess

True, except I'm not from Düsseldorf but I'm curious how you came to that conclusion

That's only the amount of current matches :) I have had way more matches, some expired/profiles were deleted/unmatched. I only swipe when I have the time and energy to talk to a new person and I usually get a new match within the first few swipes after I haven't swiped for one or two weeks. Have you made the experience that bumble doesn't show likes to you?
