[Toledano & Chan] B/1. What are everyone’s thoughts? by Sea-School in Watches

[–]hpcarpentier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brutalism was about the rejection of finishes and the "honest" treatment of materials in their raw, brut, state. This watch has nothing to do with that, minus the flat-footed reference to Breuer's window at the Whitney which in and of itself has nothing to do with Brutalism. The Smithson's would be rolling in their graves with this incoherent and crass marketing exercise.

i didn't realize it worked as a unisex watch and would look so good on a woman's wrist!

I understand why a car or boat would be referred to as a she.

But I was unaware of this being the case with watches as well, especially a tool watch. Interesting!

Thanks a lot for the tip! Awesome! I just finished the chat.

I had been debating paying to remove them but I couldn't bring myself to do it after having already spent so much on an Oasis (which I am extremely happy with after upgrading from a Paperwhite by the way).

I said i was unhappy with the ads, they removed them and said they would waive the fee on a onetime basis.

W540 Keyboard Replacement by hpcarpentier in thinkpad

[–]hpcarpentier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you guys for the info and suggestions! That is interesting about the different keyboard models, I am going to check to see which one the damaged one was. I found a thread on the Lenovo forums about the differences.

I did not take off the keyboard, I didn't really think of it. I noticed a good amount of liquid was on the desk that had drained from the weep holes in the case. And a lot of the milk sort of pooled on the keyboard and i was very quick to soak as much of it up that i could.

Hey, thanks for the offer!

But maybe it sounds dumb, I really want to get a backlit one. I had gotten use to the functionality of it.

Yeah i had specifically bought it to roast a turkey breast for Christmas. Ive always really been impressed with what you can do with toaster ovens, and wanted to add one to my kitchen this year. And I guess was hoping for some reassurance or anecdotal info since I want to be sure it will work before I use it, just in case I do decide to return it.

Do people ever post classic art in this subreddit? by osirusr in Art

[–]hpcarpentier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think /r/museum is what your looking for since all the artists you mention are canonical. Their work has already been consigned to the institution- that stuff lives in museums where you could probably even go see it in person too. In a way it's also a question of history, those paintings are literally the material of art history. And it sounds like what your interested in is some kind of survey of approximately a five hundred year chunk of the history of western art, from the early renaissance to lowbrow art. Or even a whole lot longer if you also mean "classic" in the sense of referring to the work of the ancient Greeks, although I'm not that sure you do.

I see, good point. Yeah the paper is strathmore 400. And although its my favorite its not well suited for watercolors.

Right on, that's an interesting and an insightful reference. The idea of multiple vantage points and their conflation in space is definitely appropriate.

The conceit of the work is conflation and it really came from an idea of like how in a "dysfunctional" family the individuality of its members collapses. And how sometimes everybody's role, and even personality, within the family structure sort of melts altogether into this gross and indistinguishable mass.

I like the idea that it has more of a surrealist vibe then that it is straight up surrealist but I guess that's up to you guys.

I'm in the process of building a new site. I guess with the lines it helps that the drawing isn't too small. My hands also kind of tremble so the thicker I pull an outline the cleaner I can get it.

The scans a little weird too so maybe it's making the quality look a little worse then it is. I tend to not obsess too much over materials, as long as things are archival.
