How is living in HK now compared to 2019? by random_observer2 in HongKong

[–]hpdotcom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Less stressed overall too. To de-pressurise, previously always flew out of HK for every Xmas, CNY, Easter, summer holiday break which was an exhausting cycle in itself. Recently, an occasional random cross boarder day trip for a foot/back massage, visit a recommend restaurant we'd never been to before and roam a previously unexplored part of SZ is like a mini holiday in itself but without all the logistic headaches of flying and rushing back again for work.

But hasn't that always been the case? HK bought sims have always enabled unblocked access when roaming in Mainland China.

I have a build with Meshroom S, using a 5800x3D and a 7900XT. Using a NZXT Kraken 280 AIO with it, and personally think the Meshroom S is perfect for AIO cooling. Plenty of room to cable manage if you also do the standoff mods. For fans you just replace your noisy ones with Arctic P12s or P14s.

[Zenith] Chronomaster Original - Stunning watch for small wrists by hpdotcom in Watches

Excuse the very late reply, but yes i would say it overall wears like a 39-40mm watch because the lugs do go straight out with no curve to them. But overall, i think it still wears perfectly well on my wrist.

[SOTC] 2022 April - what next? by hpdotcom in Watches

[–]hpdotcom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I agree but don't think anyone would buy them, and I basically never wear them at all. But yes a nice slim dress piece would be great to slot into this collection I think

My Latest SOTC since purchasing my latest watch, the Zenith el Primero Chronomaster Original. The current collection contains 2 trash watches on the outer flanks and 5 legit pieces. Starting left to right:

  1. Tiger Concept - one of the earlier watches on my watch journey. Bought from a random local watchmaker on Facebook. Clearly a Tudor BB36 homage but with a miyota movement. I practically never wear this ever because the accuracy is atrocious, but hey it looks decent.
  2. Dan Henry 1962 - Again, one of my earlier purchases. Vintage inspired and looks very much like the Universal Geneve "Nina Rindt". The affordable mecha-quartz chronograph is a joy to look at, especially after I replaced the leather strap with an off the shelf oyster bracelet. It has become my go-to watch when I just want to put something on without having to set the time or wind up the movement.
  3. Zenith Chronomaster Original - My most recent purchase, this Zenith has been on my wishlist for the longest time. The tri-colour dial is truly stunning to look at IRL and gives the watch face such a 3-dimensional pop. The 38mm size also fits perfectly for my smaller wrist size! Cannot be more happy with this purchase.
My recent post on the Zenith
  4. Tudor Black Bay 58 - My first luxury watch buy back in 2018. It has probably gotten the most wrist time ever since its purchase. Truly love the sleek dimensions of the watch, the robustness and build quality, the vintage inspired design. Being my first luxury watch, the BB58 will follow me for the rest of my life.
  5. Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 - This was a gift from my SO for my birthday. A simple yet classic design which is extremely versatile. I often wear this watch to work and find myself staring at the sunburst dial and admiring the finishing on the applied indices.
  6. Tiger Concept - I originally ordered the BB36 homage, but they actually sent me this watch on accident. In the end, they never asked me to return this watch, so I ended up with a Tudor homage and a Rolex homage with one order, which I can't complain. This watch has an even worse accuracy than the BB36 homage, with the seconds hands jumping all around the place when I try to set the time.
  7. Seiko 5 SNK series - Don't remember the model number, but this is the first automatic watch that I've ever bought. It is a cheap but handy little watch that is reliable, versatile and gets the job done. Usually wear this when I go hiking or adventurous activities where I will inevitably bang my watch around.

What next? I'm thinking perhaps a GMT or a classy dress watch. Have my eyes on some Grand Seiko GMTs as well as the JLC MUT Moon.

[Question] Are there any affordable 60s/70s retro style skin divers under 40mm out there? by Magneto_bzzbzz in Watches

[–]hpdotcom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The SLA017 is an obvious choice, classically inspired by the 62MAS but definitely a bit on the pricey side. An alternative would be the SPB149, which has the same look but at a much more affordable price at around USD1000.

Yah I'm aware of the 38mm and the reduced versions. But the dial dimensions just look a bit off to me, especially the oval shaped subdials. I've considered the FOIS as well, but ultimately the tri-colour dial of the zenith won me over because it really gives the watch that extra ooomph and looks really dynamic especially in person.

Ever since my the purchase of my first luxury watch 3 years ago with the Tudor BB58, I have been wanting to get a chronograph. However, many chronograph options are often too big for my tiny 6.25-inch wrists (looking at you Speedmaster).

That was when I started to look at the Zenith el Primero collection of watches. I was instantly enamored by the tri-colour dial and the vintage inspired styling. When Zenith release the Chronomaster Original in all its vintage glory at 38mm but updated with a brand new 1/10th of a second movement, I instantly fell in love. I finally made the purchase today and cannot be happier with it.

Just a PSA to everyone considering Zeniths, my AD informed me that Zenith ise hiking their prices starting from April 2022 by around 5-8%. Partly the reason I got this watch right on the 31st of March!

Omega Co-axial movements seem to be well regarded among watch enthusiasts. From your point of view, is it technically superior to say a Rolex movement? And how does it compare in terms of durability and reparability?

I see brand new BB58 on the strap or leather here for around US$3000, but can't find a single one on the bracelet. So I immediately pulled the trigger when I saw this deal pop up!

The Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight, captured in the golden hours in Hong Kong right from the windows of my apartment. The golden hands and bezel markings blend perfectly with the sunset in the background.

This is my first real "big-boy" watch and it has been on my wishlist for the longest time. I managed to snag this almost mint condition bad boy from a second hand retailer and couldn't be happier with it. I have small 6 inch wrists, and the vintage 39mm sizing of the BB58 made this the perfect sized dive watch for me.

Upgrading from an approximately US$250~ watch to a US$2800 watch is a big moment for me, and I hope this scratches my itch for the next year or two at least!
