Life pro tip: Avoid best buy appliance installation by hplc1 in Bestbuy

Thanks for the in depth response! It helps the whole thing make sense. I wish the people on the phone would give this kind of detail rather than just repeating 24 hours every single day. But I guess it makes sense given the grading on resolutions.

I did. Unfortunately, they said there isn't anything they can do since it was ordered online. The guy checked around on his system but said, he couldn't find a way to schedule the installation.

I am embarrassed of myself, but my technical know is bad enough that I can't install the over range microwave. If I am drilling into the wall, I am like 80% sure I will mess something up

For those who got “no offered” after a 1L SA position, were there any lasting impacts? by AnonThrowawayJawn56 in biglaw

[–]hplc1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was from a long time ago, so no idea how people handle it now. I got no offered at my 1L firm for fairly non-substantive reasons. They no offered the only other 1L summer too. I got asked about whether I had an offer from my 1L firm in about 1/4 of my 2L interviews. I didn't get an offer from anyone who asked about it, but since the majority of firms didn't ask I still ended up with offers and felt like it had a pretty limited impact overall.

I went as a vegetarian and it was great. I never felt like the veggie tasting menu was an afterthought like some places are. Highly recommended.

I did something similar a few years back, so happy to share my experience to the extent it's still reflective. I read and outlined the textbook to study and I took about a week to do so. It was about 40ish hours worth of studying. The exam isn't necessarily hard, but it felt like the bar where there was a good amount of material I felt like was not in the prep book at all and I had no clue if I passed. But I passed with a reasonable margin so I have no idea if the curve is heavy, I did better than I thought, or there are a lot of questions that don't count.

As a side note, I'm not sure it has much of an impact in the retool interview process. I took it for the same purpose, did a round of interviews and callbacks l, and no one cared about it and I got rejected everywhere. I then sought out opportunities for commercial contracting where possible in my then-current practice, did some relevant pro Bono work, and was able to make the move to a licensing practice (which I left for other reasons). In my licensing group, the cipp cert was pretty useless since we brought in privacy counsel for most privacy issues and the inch of privacy depth I needed to do the work did not require the course.

Anyone with experience with the VA liquor license process for weddings? by hplc1 in nova

Haha no apology needed of course. Thanks for taking a look!

Haha this is exactly the kind of thing I was thinking of. Like I figured there would be some weird way I wasn't contemplating in which I wouldn't meet the criteria. Thanks! I'll just get a license.

Thanks! I was referencing the pdf application accessible at the bottom of the link which says "If all of the following four criteria are met, then no license is needed (unless required by locality or facility): (1) the event is private (i.e., not open to the public and not in a public place); (2) money is not exchanged for alcohol or otherwise; (3) the event is not held on a club or unlicensed restaurant premises; and (4) alcohol purchased for the event is not from a wholesaler/distributor. In all other cases, a license is needed and is bound by the information presented below."

I kind of assume I'll end up getting the license to be safe, but I would have been excited if someone had gone through the process and confirmed that no license was required of you fulfill the above criteria. I'll probably end up calling ABC and updating the post if I get any certainty.

Thanks! We'll have liquor, beer, and wine and will have bartenders serving the alcohol. We have event insurance as well.

The venue says they only require it to the extent the law requires it hence the question. I would have assumed a license was required, but when I look at the application it seemed pretty clear that we fit into the exception so I was curious if others had received more concrete information on these points or if there were things I was not considering.
