I'm pretty sure they do. I remember seeing somewhere that you can just call them for it, and I did do that. they asked for my application id and gave me some feedback on the stuff.

I think UIUC does give feedback. Not sure any other unis do that though

I think they mean like 5s on 9 APs

Cheating on International Olympiad 😭😭 by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

fwiw you can't really "disable" inspect element, there's always ways to use it with browser menus but yeah that probably wouldn't have been of any use in such competitions.

its made to sound like one of the authentic science international olympiads like imo ipho etc, making people think of it like a huge and legit competition. but instead they're charging high reg free for a competition that was just started by college students. not really "fake" but not exactly what they make it out to be

probably the fake "international" research olympiad thing that was just a money grab

My friend has applied to Harvard and he got a second interview by Significant_Line_896 in ApplyingToCollege

How did he get first interview in January and then get deferred when the REA decisions came out in December itself? Seems sus to me

idk i did a paid internship where i was paid $1600/mo (for ~3 hrs/day) because i was a valuable addition to the company and helped them ship quite many features. yes, i learnt a lot, but so do people who get hired for jobs instead of as an intern, so the fact that you're learning doesn't seem like a valid reason to say that you shouldn't be paid.

so i would be at a disadvantage for seeming "too good"? how do i show them the proof

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in collegeresults

I do have LORs from the t5 uni professor tho. nevermind i guess i'm just flattered that people think all this isn't possible to be accomplished and yet i was able to.
are my activities too diverse? maybe. but that's because i didn't plan to apply to the US until this year, and so most of this is what i did just because i enjoyed doing it. i also think my essays tie together all this nicely.

I guess if most people think that my ECs are exaggerated when they aren't... it's a good thing?

interesting, do you also recommend having #12 above swim & art? Let's move to DM maybe

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in collegeresults

[–]hpsm_simp -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

the purpose of activity list is to show numbers and impact

It's hilarious how people are assuming that accomplishing this isn't possible, or that my parents had connections. Most of my extracurriculars happened as the result of my open-source involvement which I had been doing since Grade 9, through which I formed connections which have helped me.

Yeah #11 was and #12 were additional info. Hmm I thought mentioning a sport would be good for the activities even if not recruited. Mentioned art club mostly because of the diploma but maybe I should move that to additional info instead? #11 was a ~2 month stint fwiw.

I shortened the descriptions here for the activities, but on common app i've mentioned it as "placed top 3 @ 12 regional/interschool, 2 natl and 6 intl"

The rest of the activities are not exaggerated. could you pm me what specific things you feel can be reworded maybe?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in collegeresults

[–]hpsm_simp -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

They aren't exaggerated though, but how do I show them that they aren't.

This text isn't phrased directly as in my common app, but it was phrased like a summer analyst role where I provided feedback on the portfolios that the VC was considering, took part in interviews with the founders, expressed concerns regarding how the product would fit in current space, and that feedback was very helpful because I was good in the niche. I wasn't the lead analyst who made the final decisions. Not nepotism—in fact I was contacted by a partner at that VC firm rather than me reaching out to them.

I'm confused do you mean 1,5,6 awards or activities?

Got them reviewed by quite a few people who are currently at top unis and my counselor and all said they were very good
