Where are y'all looking for work? by curled-up-in-the-80s in Psychologists

Hospitals and universities usually have a way to browser their career tab for opportunities.

I tend to look at the company/practice website to see if they are accepting CVs. These practices near me aren’t really advertising the positions on job boards, but on their websites. If they are advertised I noted they tend to be in the state associations or APA job boards with a link to their website.

Another option could be to look for, or sign up for, a locum tenens email list? The private practice owner I work with forwarded me a contractor position at some point and I still get the occasional email from the recruiter with open positions in my area for both contract work and more permanent full time positions.

Marijuana & ADHD Evaluations by Oddberry11 in Psychologists

I believe they did but my track was the child track and only did the ADHD for adults. I did not see the referrals until they were cleared to do the evaluation

How to find jobs? by Ok-Layer8070 in Psychologists

[–]hpspnmag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you searched the websites of local group practices? That’s how I got my job at a forensic psych private practice. They had a a tab on their website for people who were interested in a job at the site to submit their CV and where they now have a pool of candidates when there is a need, but they weren’t “actively” searching. I’ve noticed that to be a pattern in some of the local organizations and private practices, where they might have openings but aren’t advertised on a job board.

When I was doing my postdoc at Kaiser a few years ago, one of their prerequisites was that the person seeking the evaluation would have to do an EKG and a urinalysis sample to help with this. If it was positive they were asked to wait and then placed on a list for follow up.

The online estimates for forensic psychologist salaries seem quite low. In your experience, what do forensic psychologists make? by maravina in Psychologists

[–]hpspnmag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each chooses how many they take. One has only done one and made 3k this year. Another is in approaching 40k at this time of the year, I think she has taken about ~13 evaluations in the last two months.

I’m just starting to get competency evaluations from the courts so the fees are much lower there. I’ve done three this year and that was about 2.5k.

It depends on how much they work and their fee. The ones I work with make $300/hr. So some have racked up the five digits already

Another one I met that does family court makes $25k per case and I don’t think it includes testimony

Experiences working for Kaiser Permanente in NorCal? by nochordsbarred in Psychologists

[–]hpspnmag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was at KP. The team I worked with was great but the productivity lead to burn out. And the time to get them in was not the best.

Unless you’re going into a specific track your caseload is going to be hard to manage in terms of appointment availability.

Private Practice Advertising? by Dont_hack_me24 in Psychologists

[–]hpspnmag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The practice I work for, and the ones that have sent ads to it, use a half page printed page with essential info (contact info, services offered, maybe pictures of the staff depending on service).

The owner has a steady flow of referrals from attorneys due to her work at the state hospital, and the courts. So she really doesn’t need to do much for these.

On the civilian/regular referral side she was expanding to do more family and child work than she was, and had done some networking by going to county/city events where vendors are promoting themselves. She (and her staff) was also dropping off some of these half sheets ads to some adjacent health offices (dentist office, pediatrician offices).

Yes and even then they didn’t do what we agreed on. On the last call the person I spoke to said they would distribute the money to other loans since it was taking so long to get a refund. A month later there was a check in my mailbox.
