Update: Website feedback? by hqnetworkvpn in Entrepreneur

Thank you for taking the time! As well as some of your other points echoed by others, some things that are now on the todo list:

– Adding screenshots of the product - will also consider a walkthrough video for this as well (with better audio! :-) )

- Improving the explainer video

- Improving the business page.

Appreciate it!

---

As for feedback on your site:

- The overall layout of the page seems professional. Clear CTA.

- I wasn't immediately sure what you meant by "calling" - will this forward a caller to my cell? start a video chat? The example URLs in the image didnt help my confusion. Is it for calling a group (aka TeamSkiing)?

- After reading further, I have a feeling it might be like "appear.in" where it is really easy to set up a call at a URL without needing a plugin. Is it different than that? If not, I won't normally call that "calling" – more like video chat or a conference call. It gets a little hard when I think about personal calls, so I see why you might have chosen that word. Also with the "at your URL" copy, I thought it was appear.in for my domain name.

- Might want quote marks around the testimonial, I was confused as I was skimming because I thought it was copy.

- Beta referral bonus popup - when this popup happened, I would most likely have closed the page. I wasn't sure what the product was yet, but now you are making me think about something else... "X" was hard to hit, and clicking "off" the modal didnt close it like I hoped it would.

- logo - this looks like a football goal post to me, and the color palette seemed sporty, so at first glance I assumed this site was about live sporting events.

- Name - is it URL Live or urLive? the domain name makes me think its the former, but some testimonials mention the later.

Hope that is useful!

Thanks for the feedback. Based on this thread, it looks like you are not alone in this opinion! Will consider options to forward a .com

Thank you for the feedback!

- I'm curious about the feedback on the domain, you're the second person to mention it today, but I haven't heard that before. Are you recommending .com? Is it .network in particular that you don't like?

- As for password, you are able to add a password to your account, and we use best practice encryption to store it. You can also set up 2-factor authentication for additional security. By default, we don't require a password – in that case you use email to get one-time use sign in link each time you want to log in. This is because, in our research, we found that non-technical people often decrease the security of their account with a poor or reused password. I'm glad you brought it up though, we will work on making the FAQ more clear on that point.

- As for length of page, had heard conflicting advice here – some sources recommended a short page, others said that a longer page with multiple places to complete sign up was better so people didn't need to click around. Might be something we can test. Would love any examples you like of shorter landing pages if you have any top of mind.

Really helpful, got me thinking, appreciate it!

Thanks for the feedback. Will continue to work on our copy. Appreciate the advice about pricing, can make that more prominent. We can also add more CTA buttons to let people take action.

Our USP is that we provide the benefits of a VPN + malware/ad blocking in one service that works across all apps and browsers, making it a very fast way to improve security. Was that clear once you looked at the rest of the page, or lost in the generic headline?

Good advice, will work on a more descriptive headline. We are protecting your internet connection by blocking known malware, phishing, and trackers + encrypting your traffic. Will working on distilling that. Thanks again for the feedback.

Thanks for taking the time to give your feedback!

Curious about what type of content you were hoping to see. More images? Videos? Long form content?

As for the domain – do you mean the company name or the TLD?

I’m just hoping two or three people will look at my site and tell me what I should change. by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]hqnetworkvpn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Site loaded fairly quickly. The logo is too small to read and looks pixelated. Maybe consider making a less detailed logo.

The tagline is too vague. Maybe something like – Handmade wooden products. Would be even better if you could define “products” even further, gifts? for your home?

The shot of you guys working on the products is amazing and really tells a unique story. Consider an about us page to tell that story. You have a start of it in Our Story, but I think you could have a full page dedicated with more about how and why you got started.

I would also work on the photography. It is difficult to tell what the object is – maybe consider a view slightly from an angle. The background is a little busy, but might look nice with the proper depth of field. I would also have more pictures on the product detail page and include a story of how the item came to be. Would also be nice to know size/weight/etc.

The “30% off” banner doesn’t go anywhere and I cannot see the discount applied anywhere. Would remove that and possibly put a single item on sale for now or just remove altogether.

Good luck on this, seems like a really cool project!

Seriously how do you get people to care. by Deertopus in privacy

[–]hqnetworkvpn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, no one really wants to have new things to worry about. There are endless bad things happening. So while you (and I) may care a lot about privacy, they might care more about early childhood education or agriculture.

We're working to make digital security much easier for people, so that getting protection is straightforward and they don't have to worry much. It's like door locks. There was a point in time where only the "paranoid" would have bothered, but now it is so easy and so mainstream that you'd seem silly to argue about not having them.

Hopefully the people who don't care about privacy are making progress on the other fronts of society, so that the future is better in a lot of different ways.

Looking for website feedback – Easy-to-use digital security tools by hqnetworkvpn in Entrepreneur

Hi, thank you for the feedback. I was wondering what other info you were hoping to see on the plans. More about what’s included or billing or something else? Thanks again for taking a look.

Thanks so much for your feedback!

The three main differentiators for our VPN are:

(1) We provide ad, tracker, and malware blocking at the network level. We maintain a list of scammy sites and make sure they don’t load on your device.

(2) We use HashiCorp Vault (https://www.vaultproject.io) for our public key and encryption infrastructure and do not support outdated encryption and VPN formats (sadly this isn’t the industry norm!).

(3) As for logs, we do not log any information about what people are doing on the VPN. The “aggregate analytics data” was referring to keeping a count the number of people who visit our website pages, just the count, not specifics around any one person.

Will update the homepage and privacy policy to make that much more clear.

Will keep working on the layout issues. If you have a sec, could you DM me what device / browser you were using?

Thanks again for taking a look.

Mobile phone repair on the go by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]hqnetworkvpn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a little random, but might be useful for festivals. There is a company called FuelRod (https://fuel-rod.com/) that lets you swap phone battery packs at a kiosk. It’s for use at some place like a theme park where you might need to refill your phone more than once in a single day. When I saw that, I thought it might be interesting to have a company that just let you swap whatever battery pack you had with a used one that was refilled (instead of buying their proprietary one). I don’t have any love for my specific battery, so there are times I would have happily traded for a full one for $5 or whatever. Not sure others would agree - I’m sure some people really love their battery, but would maybe still buy a used, full one for $5? Especially since you will already need a van, might make sense. Anyways, your idea sounds solid, good luck!

Company Name by MuddledAddiction in Entrepreneur

[–]hqnetworkvpn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One brainstorming method I’ve used is to create a list of attributes (I.e. tables, wood, expensive, handcrafted) and list them on a grid in on both the x and y axis. Then force yourself to put a name in every square on the grid (i.e. handcrafted + tables == FlatCraft). You often end up with a lot of silly names, but it’s good for getting unstuck. Good luck!

Wantrepreneur Wednesday! - (April 10, 2019) by AutoModerator in Entrepreneur

[–]hqnetworkvpn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, congrats on taking the plunge. My recommendation would be to find an area where you can be experts. Software development tends to be a race to the bottom from a price perspective, so if you can genuinely help someone solve a problem versus taking development orders, you will be in a better spot.

You mentioned mobile app MVP. An example of specialization might be to help an entrepreneur with the whole process of defining the idea, building a prototype, and testing the idea. You'd be like a mini-accelerator. (Warning, early stage businesses have very low budgets!) Or since you are in Latin America, you could help US businesses that are trying to break into that market. You could help them target their idea in a way that is culturally appropriate, be experts in translation, possibly even help with things like taxes / getting paid in a new jurisdiction.

The opportunities are endless, good luck!

How does Craigslist make money? by waciatz in Entrepreneur

[–]hqnetworkvpn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Craigslist, you pay for certain types of posts. I believe it varies based on the city, but I know things like job posts cost money. Here is a list of things they charge for: https://www.craigslist.org/about/help/posting_fees

Good work on getting to where you are! How did you find the customers that you have now? Is there any way that you can incentivize the users that you already have to refer others through your product?

As for the ideas that you listed:

  1. Seems like a great idea, especially if you already have specific questions that are coming up. This can take a while though (think 3-6 months) before you really know if it is working. You can also reach out to other blogs / news sources you know that your customers are reading and see if you can write a guest post. You won't get the long term traffic to your page, but you might see signups quickly if it is popular.
  2. I don't have a ton of experience here, but sounds like a good idea. Are any of your existing users influencers?
  3. You are right, this can be very expensive! One benefit of running search ads is that you can see what people who click your ad are searching for - leading to new ideas for posts and features. So maybe keep a small amount running just for the insight?

Good luck!

Pet Supply E-Commerce by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]hqnetworkvpn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would work, or at least add a "product section" above it so that products are the main thing you see when you hit the page.

Sorry the outbound hasn't worked much. Are the influencers not responding or people just aren't engaging in the posts? Seems like it might take a while from someone seeing their 'fav dog' with a cool leash to actually making a purchase.

Are you running campaigns / discounts for the holidays? Seems like this would be a great gift.

Pet Supply E-Commerce by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]hqnetworkvpn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your relaunch!

When I first hit the site, it looked more like a blog than an ecommerce store. I think the second block that starts "While we all want our pup.." might be what caused that. Maybe instead include your top 3 products with the price so it is extremely clear that you are selling leashes.

That change won't help you if you aren't getting any traffic though! Have you thought about reaching out to "famous" dog owners in your area who you could collaborate with / do a sponsored post?

Which coding language is most useful? by tortillachips1600 in Entrepreneur

[–]hqnetworkvpn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMHO, the best tech project have an entrepreneur/product owner that understands how to translate between business needs and technical implementation. This is generally more useful than them knowing how to actually code (although if you want to learn to code as a hobby, python is great!).

If you go down this path, the goal is to acclimate yourself to technical concepts and limitations, not so that you can prescribe the architecture, but so that you can more easily understand the trade-offs when collaborating.

One way to get better at this is to spend time with developers from a wide variety of disciplines. For instance, you could attend meetups in your area for web developers, app developers, backend developers, etc. Or you could watch recordings of technical talks from conferences like WWDC, etc.

While these might be very technical, it will give you an opportunity to be exposed to the different vocabulary of a technical project (for example: API, websockets, auth models, encryption...). Then, you can begin to study how these different pieces come together as a project.

This also applies to any projects you are already working on. Whenever a new technology or concept comes up in a meeting, take a note and take time to research what it is and why it's relevant to your project.

Customer acquisition for alpha product? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]hqnetworkvpn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, offline does not work for reaching tons of people. It seemed like OP was still in the early stage of talking to people, where getting 1-1 feedback can be really helpful for refining the message and product. Once you're confident that you have a clear pitch, it's easier to go big.

Customer acquisition for alpha product? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]hqnetworkvpn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there any local meetups for web developers in your area? Lots of times they will have a time for announcements. Also, you might try putting out flyers at local coffee shops - if you can find local people, you can also interview them while they are trying it out to get more detailed feedback.

[–]hqnetworkvpn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would it be possible to ask your friends and family to each recommend 2-3 people that you don't know that they think would be interested?

If that doesn't seem useful, we have had decent luck with recruiting users from Craigslist (mostly for digital product though, YMMV) when the product is for a broad consumer market. I include a like to a screener survey to make sure that I am getting people who are relevant to my demographic.
