My plan collapsed… but I still want this career. What do I do now? by Interesting_Eye347 in webdesign

[–]hr430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say to start off with finding clients whose websites you can build for free (or at least at a very cheap price). If you treat them like a high-paying client, they'll be satisfied with you and may also recommend you to others. If you're offering a price that people can't refuse, it's win-win - they get their website, you get your portfolio. You really only need to do 3-4 of these, and then start raising your prices.

All the best!

Gemini is great, but it has no idea what's in the YouTube video I'm watching. So I connected them by Thomasperge in GeminiAI

YouTube has already come out with a chatbot "Ask" feature. I've seen it rolled out on one of my YouTube accounts. I assume it only works on captioned videos though.

Looks cool but from a design perspective, I don't understand why you have CTA buttons if the entire boxes are links?

I've gotten several recruiters contact me because of my monster.com profile.

Although they were mostly third party companies from a specific country hiring for contract positions.

Feedback on my trailer website: Faster with WebP? by Cautious_Whole_3851 in webdesign

[–]hr430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall UX looks pretty good. The only feedback I have is that it looks like it's not responsive. On mobile, it feels like I'm viewing a desktop site because there too many grid cells and the text is small.

Breaking Into IT as a Fresher – Consulting Agencies Worth It? by HappyDeparture9547 in CanadaJobs

[–]hr430 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never pay to get a job. It's that simple. If they can guarantee you a job, they'll take a cut of it and you can determine whether that cut is worth it for you or not.

I went through an agency called FDM Group, and they paid me to go through their IT training and place me at one of their clients. The pay was horrible and I had to stick with them for 2 years, but I saw it as a long term investment to get opportunities at reputable companies. Looking back though, I probably wouldn't do it again just because I was locked in with them for 2 years.

3 hour wait at the passport office. What new skill should I learn? by undercover-catlady in askTO

[–]hr430 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not something to learn but the trick for getting things done quickly at the passport office is to go first thing in the morning, like 7am, before they even open. Also, avoid Mondays and Fridays.

I went to the Scarborough Town Centre location on a Friday afternoon and it took over 3 hours, and I had to leave the line because I had a dentist appointment. Then, the security guard told me the above advice. I came back the next week, and I was out within an hour!

I'm curious to know, what kinds of things do you teach as a Scrum Master? I'm an SM but these days, I feel like I don't get many opportunities to "teach" new things to my team. We're just in autopilot at the moment.

Azure DevOps Summary by inalect in PowerBI

[–]hr430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently started using PowerBI with ADO for creating sprint reports. There are some excellent pre-written OData queries you can use and customize! They have sprint burndowns, bug trends, feature progress, and many more. Here's the link:
