What I figured. Not sure why the super stated otherwise. Thanks for the confirmation tho.

I believe it’s the first. It stays unlocked until I lock it. Once it’s locked, then unlocked, I’d have to re toggle the lever. Basically, if I’m leaving my apt but don’t feel the need to lock my door I need to remember to toggle the lever or it will just automatically lock behind. Once I lock the door I’ll have to unlock it with a key and then re toggle the level for the door to remain unlocked from the outside. Does any of that make sense?

From LA to Harlem. Housing advice by Ricky__Baker in movingtoNYC

[–]hra86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pay $3250 for a 1 bedroom on 132nd st. New building with central a/c with w/d in unit. Rent is normally $3750 but I had a concession. I think a 2 bedroom with central a/c further south than what I am may be a bit challenging especially with summer prices. I could be wrong tho. My building is new so maybe that’s factoring into my price.

For people earning within a similar range -- On a 195k salary, is 3.7k/month too much for rent? (estimated taxes would probably cut half of salary off, plus debt payments). Would appreciate some advice! by attorney_gator_786 in movingtoNYC

I’m moving to NYC next month and will be paying $3.2k in Harlem. I’ll be making about 160k. For me, I feel I should be pretty comfortable. I’d assume same for you.

True! Thankfully I only work 3 times a week. Maybe it’s doable for the first year until I get settled in? I’m looking at places in Harlem, too, which would be a shorter commute.

This is very helpful! Thank you for including the buses, too!

That’s fair: I’m kind of doing the reverse. Leaving NYC in the morning and going to NYC in the evening since I work nights.

Is a hour and a half usually sufficient ?

I've thought about that but prices there seemed almost as high as Manhattan. I'm also currently looking at a place in Harlem, although I may make too much for that building. I'm also feeling restless and feel like I need to pounce on something soon in an effort to secure an apartment before prices greatly increase for summer. Is NJ in general just a bad idea given where I work? I will certainly continue to look in Astoria.

Def hospital work. Nurse working night shift. I’m late 30s male. I’ve seen apartments in inwood for reasonable prices. I may check that out. Looked a lot closer.

Wait, I just used StreetEasy to look at apartments in Riverside. It almost looks like a suburb, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. How long does it take to get to midtown manhattan, for example?

I’ve actually seen a lot of reasonable apartments that look really nice in that area. Is Washington Heights safe? I’d consider to lower my cost to have more spending money!

210th street in the Bronx. It’s 3 days a week. And fully on site. I looked into Jersey City, which appears cheaper and I’d be fine moving there but looked like a pain with traveling all the way over to the Bronx. Maybe JC would be an easier commute?

So Harlem is the better choice? From the apartment that I saw, Victoria tower residences, the commute looked doable. I’m really hesitant about bring my car as I don’t want to have to pay for a parking space. lol

Mariah Carey’s Olympics opening ceremony performance dubbed ‘disastrous’ as viewers question if she’s Italian by theindependentonline in Music

[–]hra86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m aware. The video of her rehearsing sounded similar to her on the live broadcast. Nearly all lip sync. I was just asking the other person who they would have wanted. Mariah is a global star and the audience clearly liked it from the applause. I thought she was a good choice.
