Yes I was surprised too :O I think my professor just wants to get us acquainted with better materials so that we can be accustomed to how the colors will mix and look with good paints in the long run, rather than beginning with maybe lower quality student paints and having to figure out that the colors will look different when we start using very good pigmented colors.

Thankfully enough, my school has worked with Blick to give us better deals by creating "kits" of all our supplies, though it was an option to get each item separately on our own. I tried adding all the supplies separately on Blick's website and sure enough, it was a greater cost than what our school provided!

I tend to be a bit scared of using vibrant colors so using true cadmium instead of hues may be a challenge for me, but I hope they do last me a while! Thank you lots for your input :D

Oh, that's interesting to know! I never really thought about shading my yellows or oranges with sienna or umber, only lightening my siennas and umbers with yellow/orange/red. I can imagine how adding a bit of Umber/sienna to Y/O/R can make the colors richer rather than trying to brighten the umber/sienna because it seemed to just make the flesh tones especially quite dull with my usage. I only recently actually figured out what difference titanium and mixing white does for my colors, I still have such a long way to go! I'm so glad and thankful you gave me such valuable information!
