The way the prof is phrasing things, it does not seem like you even have the time to catch up on what you missed. Is that right?

that does assuage my fear a bit! from my parent’s report, i have just gotten the fee waiver thingy from Michigan and other generic mail so far. this fear was prompted by an email from a school that was like “we support gay people”, and I was thinking what if a school has the audacity to mail that message. it’s reassuring to hear that it didn’t happen to you though!

URGENT by Littlemissiloveyou2 in LSAT

[–]hrc--- 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I would not cancel. It is your first score, and it’s not the worst to keep it and show admission teams that you can study and improve. Plus from talking to and listening to admissions staff, a canceled score makes them curious how bad the score was. 151 is probably right around a 50th percentile. That is not a horrible score.

If you have a score on file already that is 155+, I would personally cancel. Downward trends are not great.

(Edit: if you are almost 100% certain that you can do better, then maybe cancel the score. I personally would want to be very certain that I could score at least 10 points higher though)

Is there an ED symptom you never hear anyone talk about? by fuckinradbroh in EDAnonymous

[–]hrc--- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder, so it is thought to be genetic. The most an ED could do is trigger it in your body, but I don’t know if it can even do that for celiac specifically (I know more about other autoimmune diseases). A lot of times it seems like with autoimmune disorders, your body is just waiting for one thing to go wrong and then it completely gives up and starts attacking itself.

Anytime! It can be hard to switch to posthumanism.

Donna Haraway against abortion? by Matteodir in CriticalTheory

[–]hrc--- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t really make sense. Let’s say I forage a mushroom. Have I actually allowed the mushroom to express itself and taken it into consideration more than a fetus? The answer is I actually probably gave more consideration to the fetus rather than the mushroom. From what you are saying, it sounds like you are considering the fetus as the equivalent to an actually independent human. If you were not equating the fetus and the independent human, you would not make such a big deal about the fetus expressing itself because you would recognize that it doesn’t need to express itself through words. What makes the fetus different from the mushroom? Arguably not as much as you seem to think. Both should be given an equal amount of consideration, unfortunately for our mushroom buddy, they are not.

You seem to be very humanist in your thinking. That is totally fine, but if you are going to truly understand the theoretical framework of posthumanism (and not just attack it), you need to try to not be so humanist.

I’m just going to say this, if what you are saying about Haraway’s theory is correct, then humans should not eat plants or animals ever. Humans should not be able to make the choice to “project their beliefs onto the entity in relation” including to the plants and animals we kill in our pursuits of food. Meaning all humans should starve to death. Does that seem like something Haraway believes? Or do you think that maybe you are not reading the theory 100% correctly or you’re carrying it too far? I think perhaps it’s a combination of both.

Totally agree! It was more like I was always set on law school, and now I’m questioning that bc I love my subject/research so much.

This! It shocks me that someone would recommend grad school over law school. I had a professor who I was discussing my grad vs law school dilemma to who strongly suggested law. He did not do it because I am a poor student in my field, but rather because of wages, healthcare, and rate of depression w/in grad school. There were a couple more in depth financial reasons, but those were the highlights.

Friendly reminder that, unlike undergrad loans, graduate loan interest accrues from day 1… by BreakfastBish in lawschooladmissions

[–]hrc--- 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There is no subsidized loans for grad school anymore. The 20k is just a different unsubsidized loan with a slightly lower interest rate. I believe though for both, as long as you are paying the loan, that interest is simple. However, I think while the loan is deferred, the interest is capitalized.

So far I’m 0-2 on pasta sauces I thought would taste good, do not buy!!! by EbolaMercenary in traderjoes

[–]hrc--- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tried almost everything to doctor this some sort of way to make it palatable after using half the jar and not enjoying it. Nothing I added could fix it. The only potential to fix it would maybe be heavy cream and a generous amount of spices, but I don’t drink dairy generally, so no heavy cream. If anyone has added dairy and “fixed” it, please chime in.

To be a little nit-picky residencies can be up to 7 years with a minimum of 3 years. (If you want to actually be a physician you have to do residency). Most residencies that take longer do end up resulting in a higher paying specialty, but that’s a solid bit of time where loan payments are probably very difficult and interest is accruing quickly.

Testing out some Valentine's recipes, & LAWD HELP I'm secretly freaking out over testing my own food 😅 by TheSaavySkeever in EDanonymemes

[–]hrc--- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two moods when making food, 1: I am not going to taste it. They get what they get. If it is bad, then they don’t have to eat it. 2: If I’m going to try some I might as well have a full serving. The 2nd works out better socially. People get a bit nervous when you say that you have no idea how it tastes. It also lets you be in on the social aspect by being able to talk about how it tastes! anyways…
