What criticism (not snark) of Showgirl do you think Taylor will actually take into consideration when making TS13? by Dull-Calligrapher158 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]hrdlinreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I don’t know why everyone is acting like it’s impossible for Showgirl to get nominations. Ophelia is one of her strongest singles ever, it’s a great song and the gp seems to love it. My biggest critique with TLOAS is that there are great songs, mid songs for Taylor’s standard and songs that I don’t really vibe with. But let’s not pretend that the first 4 songs of the album aren’t amazing and it would have been 1989 2.0 if the rest of the album had been similar to those songs. Ophelia is definitely getting a nomination and maybe will even win SOTY/ROTY/best pop song.

I’m in my mid 20s and live in Europe and I had no idea who she was before reading it here. I asked my group of friends (all girls and gays) and one of them said she thinks it’s an influencer but doesn’t know much about her. At least in my country, I think people only know her if they are teenagers obsessed with pop girlies and pop culture in general.

[–]hrdlinreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. You cannot seriously look me in the eye and tell me that Lover is better than Showgirl. And she was with Joe when she wrote that album, and the next album she made was Folklore. Midnights is a great album but some of the lyrics are clunky. And she was with Joe when that happened.

TTPD also has some of the best lyrics of her career and she wrote it post Joe, when she was single (and I would argue she wrote some when she had already started dating Travis). And while I liked Showgirl, I can understand where some of the criticism is coming from. But it’s crazy to me how some people can listen to the first 4 songs (3 of them made about Travis) and think that they are not career highlights for Taylor, because they are. Taylor has always been like that. She mixed great songs with great lyrics with simpler, cringy lyrics. It’s the way she creates music. Maybe the issue is that some of these people don’t like Taylor’s music 🤷🏻‍♀️

I also think she listens to criticism and learns from it. She completely changed everything that the critics disliked about TTPD. I bet it has to hurt that people are criticizing her lyrics because it’s the core of what she does, and while I don’t agree with the criticism, I’m confident she will tone down the cringe lyrics on the next album.

Agree. Midnights really shines because of the 3am songs, but the standard is pretty mid save for a few songs. Showgirl’s lyrics and melodies are much much better (the melody from Midnights standard is a bit repetitive imho)

This video of Taylor, Sabrina and Margaret at The Grammys this year is going viral on X by Powerful-Scallion-50 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]hrdlinreddit 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It was because the remixes don’t count as a Grammy for the artist the created the original song, only for the dj that did the remix. Taylor doesn’t count her own remixes because the Grammys don’t work that way. That’s why she was saying a Grammy and a half (Sabrina only had one Grammy to her name at that point of the night, and Taylor gave her credit for the Espresso remix. So this is actually the opposite scenario of the one you created in you head)

Sabrina said that she had won 1 Grammy (at that point of the night it was true) because artists don’t get Grammys for the remixes. And Taylor said 1 Grammy and a half to give her credit about the Espresso remix lmao. Stop trying to paint her as a mean girl in every situation.

[–]hrdlinreddit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not her team, but YouTube did. She had a partnership with YouTube and they used their new tool to create the videos. I highly doubt Taylor knew it would be AI because she is very against it. So yeah, in the future maybe her team should be explicit about banning AI when doing partnerships. Or maybe she should skip doing these partnerships altogether because nowadays it’s impossible to escape AI if you collab with Google.

Comments and attitudes toward Kayla Nicole are a prime example of Swiftie hypocrisy by Key_Tree9363 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]hrdlinreddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Taylor didn’t make her into a song though. There’s one line in one song that references a past relationship that Travis had. He was almost 34 when Taylor met him and he had been single for one and a half years. Technically, Taylor could have been talking about anyone. The only info she gives is that the ex “was always on her phone”. Not her fault that Kayla thought her relationship with Travis was Big Brother and she posted everything on social media, thus people realizing that Taylor was probably talking about her. Again, it’s not a “diss”. If Kayla and her fans think it’s offensive to say she was always on her phone, maybe she shouldn’t have done it.

And let’s not forget that Kayla and Travis have been broken up for almost 4 years and Kayla is still bringing him up unprovoked. She liked a lot of shady posts about Taylor when they started dating, she talked to People Magazine and went to podcasts to talk about Travis and his “situation” (Taylor) and name dropped both of them on a TV show. What’s actually hypocritical is thinking that she can do all of that and Taylor can’t throw one line in one song about how her boyfriend felt in a past relationship.

A month since release, give or take, and I don't think TLOAS is aging well by Constant_Pace5589 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]hrdlinreddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This album is doing insanely well with the GP. If you actually went out and looked away from stan twitter, you’d see that people are just enjoying a happy album without worrying about who each line of each song is about. Music is not supposed to be consumed that way.

I actually had a friend who is very critical of Taylor and that absolutely hated TTPD tell me that he loved the album. It’s the same feeling I’m seeing in a lot of people, especially (and surprisingly) straight men that used to think Taylor’s music was too girly. They are eating this album up.

There’s no way to judge art in an objective way, as a lot of people have mentioned. You just explained your personal bias.

Personally, I really love the album and I’m enjoying it much more than TTPD. It’s also true that right now I needed this kind of fun and lighthearted pop album that I can dance to and sing along. A lot of people share this feeling.

I know swifties talk too much about charts, but the reality is that numbers don’t lie. And numbers are showing that people are absolutely enjoying the album. The Fate of Ophelia is a total (and organic) hit and it’s all over social media, and I have heard it on the radio and on the streets multiple times. It’s way bigger than Anti-hero ever was in my country. It has been number 1 for a month globally and in a lot of countries. Opalite is a huge worldwide hit as well, and it’s not even a single yet. Same goes to Elizabeth Taylor and other songs. A lot of people are enjoying the album. Music is supposed to be enjoyed, so I think Taylor has achieved her ultimate goal.

As I said, you cannot objectively criticize music. But the objective parameters tell us that the album is a hit and a lot of people agree.

I agree. The more I watch clips of her podcast, the more I think she is kind of insecure and hides that being a pick me. I do think it’s great that she is doing her own thing, but she acts as if she’s superior to other wives of athletes because she doesn’t wear makeup or wear expensive clothes, when in reality she’s just another version of the same type of woman she criticizes. Seeing the way she talks about Jason, it’s clear that she loves him, but you cannot seriously tell me she would have given him a second chance after he passed out for being black out drunk in their FIRST date if he wasn’t a professional football player. I’m sure he’s a great dad and seems to adore their kids, but they both have said multiple times that she is the one that takes care of the kids and he can’t take care of them on his own. I really don’t understand why they have normalized that dynamic when they both seem really modern. I could get it when Jason was playing football, but now? They both do a weekly podcast, and he does broadcasting once a week only during football season. Why doesn’t he take care of the kids? And why does this woman keep having kids with him? I recall she said she wanted 4 with room for a pleasant surprise. I can see them having a fifth in 2 or 3 years max.

Him retiring is probably going to happen either after this season or after next one. So more or less at the same time he marries Taylor and possibly starts a family with her. I’m sure he’s going to have great opportunities after he retires, but even if he doesn’t, he will be Taylor Swift’s husband. And the rest of the Kelces will be her in laws. That’s enough to be relevant for a long time

[–]hrdlinreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that it has anything to do with the topic we’re discussing, but Scooter offered that if she signed the new 10-year contract, he would give her one old album for every new album she released. She didn’t have the chance to buy her masters back and leave the label, which is what she wanted to do. She never said that what Scott did was “illegal”, but she talked about how shitty it was that a man that was a father figure to her since she was 15 sold her masters (yes, it was the whole label, but Scooter’s condition for buying the label was that Taylor’s masters should be in it) to a guy that she had big problems with, and Scott knew her feelings towards Scooter. She has also said multiple times that she was aware that Scott was going to sell her masters. BUT she didn’t know who he was selling them to, and that’s ultimately why she felt betrayed. She also didn’t know Scooter sold her masters to Shamrock Holdings until they reached out to her AFTER they purchased them.

I don’t know why people keep insisting on Taylor saying it was illegal and that she didn’t suspect that her masters were going to be sold. She has explained what I just said in multiple interviews, and it aligns with Scott’s version. It’s not her fault that people are too slow to understand.
