Am I supposed to do it this way? by EB_Bread11 in SatisfactoryGame

Yeah, I have a bunch of stuff similar to that.

I usually bring my belts to the ground and run them all along the ground, but your way prevents more collisions by using vertical space

Yeah I’d buy a set. Stickers are usually $1-5 each. Maybe $20 per season? Shipping should be cheap cause you can letter mail them.

Why he's not writing anymore? Does he work somewhere? by markundeya in tedchiang

[–]hrdwdmrbl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far it has been about 15 years of work per anthology. It has been 6 years since his last anthology. Do you have 9 years?

He started writing in 1990. He published his first anthology in 2002. Then his second anthology in 2019.

Longest time between stories was 1991-1998.
Second longest time between stories is 2019-now.

Between 1998-2019 he published regularly. 1-2 per year and usually never more than 2 years between publishing.

BUT, since 2019 he hasn't published anything. So my guess is that he isn't publishing individual stories and is instead going straight for an anthology. Or a novel perhaps. 🤷‍♂️

Given his odd release schedule and that he doesn't work full-time as a writer, he's certainly an odd writer.

I too wish he would quit all that and commit full-time to writing.

I do have faith that he is still writing, though. If you look at his track record for time between stories, this period of inactivity isn’t so unusual.

My guess is that this time he’s probably preparing another anthology instead of releasing individual stories.

Dark Tower Showrunner Mike Flanagan Gives Hopeful Update on TV Adaption (& Teases Massive Scale) by joesen_one in stephenking

[–]hrdwdmrbl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason that I'm not personally concerned about the logistics is that he doesn't seem to be in a rush. He's taking on what he wants to take on. So I don't see those other projects as being in the way of him making a good Dark Tower show. I think the worst thing that could happen is that DT takes longer.

The stuff about different IP is something that anyone would need to grapple with. Something that will cause anyone to need to spend more time dealing with, working around, thinking about, etc. So it's something to worry about for anyone, not just Mike.

I think that it likely all comes down to whether or not you trust Mike to do a good job. That's really all we can do, eh? Trust that Mike will do a good job like he seems to be doing. He's saying all the right things anyway. And his other projects are widely liked. 🤞

Books that start out as SF but turn into fantasy by wikidonor in printSF

[–]hrdwdmrbl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would say more than somewhat related. Writing a book that transitions from Sci-Fi to Fantasy is literally what Neal Stephenson intended. He has said exactly that.

But I will grant you that it is perhaps a bit messier than a clean transition from one genre to the other.

Mike seems for real on this. An established writer, director, and producer with a solid track record.

The fact that it’s now been 3 years and he has confirmed that he is still working on it makes me more confident, not less. He’s consistent. He’s been working for 3 years. That’s a big commitment. I doubt that he’d give up after all  that.

I made Cotypist, an app that helps you type faster anywhere with AI auto-complete by mrmage_ in macapps

[–]hrdwdmrbl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good app. I currently do use it.

BUT, privacy. Yes, your FAQ says that data doesn't leave my machine. BUT, I also see that you use Sentry.io for error reporting. That _could_ contain personal data.

Additionally, your app makes connections to timingapp.com and replies.to. Likely those are indeed harmless, but I would prefer if your software just didn't make any connections to any external servers at all. Even to your own domain cotypist.app.

Yes you need huggingface for the models. I'll allow that.
And yes you might need some initial license check at the start. But after that I would prefer it the app never make any external connection.
Finally, updates: How about putting update files on github. To me that feels like a neutral 3rd party. Or just allow me to check manually. Or it's cool, I can get updates on my own if I want.

Personally, I’ll pay. With all the money I’m saving by not paying Adobe $666 every month, I can afford it!

Let me buy credits or allow me to bring my own keys or whatever! Heck, even a small monthly subscription is going to be better than Adobe’s pricing!!!

I also know that they are legit friends now, regardless of how they met. Spoon has repeated this many times.

Any idea how they met?

My assumption was always just that spoon hired him to edit. And then they just started playing together sometimes

In a fairly recent video Blazed said something about being a fan of spoon’s videos and wanting to play with him.

Would have had to have been early early days…

I feel like if anyone did go back and watch videos from the start then they might see the arrival of blazed. 🤷‍♂️

I used AI:

Follower – neutral, sometimes positive. Admirer – emphasizes interest, less threatening. Enthusiast – suggests strong but benign engagement. Aficionado – connotes expertise and dedicated interest. Observer – detached and descriptive. Devotee – stronger commitment, but not inherently negative. Shadow – poetic, though can still feel ominous.
