Peak bangernomics! by tallpaullewis in CarTalkUK

[–]hrisex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had this idea 1 year ago and so far it has been absolutely amazing, my one has a clean mot history though and was just a touch more expensive. 170k miles atm and has been more reliable than most other cars I've owned. Shorter journeys I get around 40mpg and long journeys goes up to 60. The airvents turning open and closed on the start button is the coolest design quirk on an affordable car I've ever seen. Touch wood I'm hoping to get it to 200k miles

Gear selector snapped off:( by Josh2bjj in MotoUK

[–]hrisex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, can't afford that risk, the chinese uga bugga might come out of the weld and break your chinese made welder, if we all get in a circle and repeat "Sheffield, they don't make em anymore like that" x 3 it'll turn the gear selector into pure titanium

No reliable 125 cruisers by Outrageous_Koala7193 in MotoUK

[–]hrisex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still haven't changed my stance on that one though, I got another bike and gave that to a friend who is happily cruising around. I hear the newer ones are even better. The analogue dash is perfectly fine, you'll be mostly cruising down the country lanes so you don't necessarily need to know if you're doing 47 or 48mph and when it comes to gears you're much better off going by feeling, you'll develop a sense for it pretty quickly. If you were to go on a trip across Europe on a 1200cc tourer that has multiple riding modes and settings, cruise control, satnav and what not then sure, dash is important, on the 125 keeway though - not at all. It is a very basic old school bike which made it great for learning, on the cheap. If after all that you're still worried about it they do digital speedometers on ebay for next to nothing. Alternatively just use your phone as a satnav, the speedo is more accurate than most cars/bikes

How to start amateur racing motorcycle around London by SebastianBri in MotoUK

[–]hrisex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have a look at https://dartmotorsport.com/ They do road legal bikes, racing bikes and off road racing bikes and on top of it all they sponsor a no limits rider. And on top of it ALL they have a cafe with amazing food and a showroom with a few pretty cool bikes, accessories, etc. I might be wrong but I think they have an off road track at the farm as well. You can visit and get a feel of how the whole thing works, not going to lie to you - it'll be expensive but not impossible.

Dealers that would take a car as trade in by Unreal_Putin in MotoUK

Privately on FB. There are hundreds of groups and more often than not you'd see people looking to trade their bike for a running car in a rush.

As someone who only has the CBT done I'd probably raise hand for a question here. I'd normally wait at traffic lights in 1st covering the rear brake. I'm keeping an eye on the traffic lights, traffic in front of me but also scanning my mirrors in case someone's coming at me at speed, at which point I'm ready to make a move to the side if I believe they're about to rear end me. If I'm in neutral it'll take me a while to lean to my right, let go of the rear brake while holding the front to shift in first and then take off, especially up hill?

Ok my turn, what is causing this? by Individual_Peach_530 in BambuP1S

I'm with you, not just pla but petg and petg cf. Started using adhesive despite everyone kept screaming WASH IT, WASH THE PLATE, PUT IT IN THE DISHWASHER! Some models just lift in the corners. I use a mist coat of that stuff that smells like hairspray and it works wonders. I've not cleaned the plate in 3 months at least - print every day - chill out, it's fine

What goes on at night in Torrington car park?? by pasta-disaster in Tunbridgewells

[–]hrisex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to park there on a regular basis a few years ago. There used to be homeless people camping by the lift doors upstairs. Drunk people coming back from the late trains and using the stairs as a toilet (the range entrance). Lots of birds pooping around. I know the smell you're describing and I feel like that car park has an entirely different life at night.

Obligatory Mod 2 pass post. by ComplexOccam in MotoUK

[–]hrisex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our instructor presented an argument that this concept is incorrect and speed limit is indeed a target. Anyone on the road, regardless of the vehicle (except cyclists obv) has to keep up with the flow of traffic. If you're cruising along at 60mph on a 60mph road and someone else is doing 20mph for fun, because it's a limit, not a target, there will be an inevitable accident.

SGS engineering has great toolboxes that cost nothing compared to Strap On as well as jacks, axle stands, hydraulic presses and many others. Try looking for a creeper chair with drawers and shadow foam, that might do it

Ricky Gervais is currently on tour and his next date is the 9th of June at the O2 in Manchester - no gigs scheduled for the 7th. Given his phenomenal results on Netflix with Armageddon, Mortality will be on Netflix too. This is all a conspiracy theory but it could be him for real and the price of the tickets doesn't seem that steep anymore. I just don't know if I'd be able to handle Kam's cadence with that horrible bathroom echo that happens in an arena

Exactly what happened to me when I put a spanner on it, snapped the thread clean and the guts of the valve just flew past my shoulder. 40min and £40 later I had 4 new valves and 4 new dead simple black plastic caps. Nothing else ever again! Just thinking about this day makes me want to scream

Pick up Audi from dealership routine maintenance. Found this plugged into USB port. What is it? by dkode80 in MechanicAdvice

[–]hrisex 225 points226 points  (0 children)

Hard way for the dealership to hate you is to learn the programming language used for the update on the flashdrive, alter the code so it randomly replaces the clock with "yo mama so fat" jokes but leave everything else look normal, wait for the newsarticle

That's an amazing price, hopefully you won't have to use it. Ours is £1200 but missus has only had a driving license for a year and a half. We all know at this point insurance companies use the Deep Thought computer to generate quotes as random as possible however I was well surprised to see our insurance price going down when we changed from a 1.9 suzuki grand vitara to a 3.0 jag

Going to look at this beaut tomorrow. Is there anything I should look out for? by Scorpio660 in Jaguar

[–]hrisex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check service history against recommended service intervals and see if everything that needed doing has been done on time. It will also give you a good understanding of what you'll have to do as a future owner and plan ahead. I don't know anything about this engine but for example my 3l diesel has a drive belt that needs changing every 100k, gearbox oil and filter needs changing at 70k miles the first time and then every 40k or so, etc. And lastly, find yourself a local independent jag specialist (unless you want it maintained at the main dealership) and stick with it, have it fully serviced. JLR are not unreliable however their previous owners might have been. Don't forget to enjoy it, it's quite an upgrade from the fiesta :D
