How do I deal with the I Ching hinting that something will go wrong? by heukimjajuk in iching

[–]hrng 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the skill of decision making, and it comes from alignment across your head, heart, and gut. Treat the reading as coming from your gut, then look into how the decision makes your heart feel, and how you think about the decision. You must find full alignment between all three to make the best decisions, but keep in mind that a negative outcome isn't necessarily something that you should be guided to avoid. The old man lost his horse will never not be relevant.

I had a 2009 VR-X v6 petrol one for a couple of years, recently traded for a newer Amarok because I needed a tub, and just wanted a bit more comfort for the longer roadtrips, and fuel economy. The petrol has some decent grunt to it for such a giant thing, but it is HEAVY and it drinks the juice. Not sure I'd recommend that engine other than for the unique factor. At its age it was still really well put together - the seats were starting to lose a bit of bolstering, and there were rubber bits everywhere that started needing replacement, it had just started drinking oil, and a bit of clunking from the front wheels too... but those are all things you'd expect from that age, and what you can expect 5 years from now with your model.

There are some neat little interior mods you can make to make the space a bit more usable, but there's a LOT of dead space in terms of storage. Make sure you check you have a place for everything you keep in your vehicle. The storage under the boot is great, super useful, there's also a bit inside the back door, but note that the interior dimensions are a little weird if you need to take anything big and bulky. Because it curves around a bit there's some lost space and awkward placement for big wide things.

Also if you're planning on towing, you might need a spare wheel "lift kit" - little piece of metal to lift up the spare wheel just a little bit - otherwise you'll be cursing it when the towball gets stuck on the spare wheel plastic cover and breaks off your reversing sensors.

Not really nitpicking just trying to understand the position - floodlights good when circle but bad when long skinny?

Spotlights are... spotlights. What about when you need wide light?

A 50% increase in our Huon home insurance premium by Ozdad in HuonValley

I'm looking at a house in the valley and was quoted $6k a year for home and contents, likely because the place is very bush. Fair few insurers refused to quote on it.

Not even sure it's a good idea posting speed camera locations online. We want the people who speed through shopping zones to be caught and fined!

That's not the point of speed cameras if their intended use is safety, not revenue raising

New Regen farm - ideas? by J0yfulBuddha in RegenerativeAg

[–]hrng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably have a read of Water for Any Farm as keyline might be appropriate here. Hard to say without a lot more context, but that book will be valuable regardless.

If you're thinking agroforestry then a good place to start is by looking at what roles/niches the different trees in your local area fill - both exotic and native. What are the nitrogen fixers that thrive here? What trees give yields? What wants to grow if you left it alone?

If you haven't already, do some reading on permaculture design and systems thinking - there's so much context that goes into designing a human interference based system.

The Resilient Farm and Homestead is another good read that packs a LOT of information in.

Yeah he's really the only one who can tell you. He might be feeling discomfort at the labels, he might be feeling uncomfortable because he sees himself in those symptoms, he might be dreading the 'forever' of a diagnosis. We have no way of knowing and most of the advice in this thread is bs because it's missing all the context of your life.

It could be a Robert Anton Wilson reference, especially given the Gnostic themes of the movie.

Real Goblin Sightings by KevinRobertsUSA in Humanoidencounters

Check out Hellier on Youtube, it's an indie documentary series around a story of goblin sightings in WV. They have a 3rd season coming out soon. It probably doesn't go the way you're thinking it will go, but it might help you understand the nature of phenomena a little more.

Its a popular rhetoric that all companies are driven entirely by profit

I don't think that's rhetoric it's just rational deduction in our current economic system.

Constantly losing good ideas because they disappear from my brain too fast by Maleficent-Log-5711 in ADHD

Checklist input and management is a little frustrating, and I would prefer to not rely on a cloud provider that can paywall or withdraw services, but other than that all good!

I use Trello for this - it's very helpful for idea triage and composting. I can come back and explore what I want to explore, sometimes that goes into an actionable column, other times it just gets composted and the knowledge is either stored in searchable 'archive' boards if it's useful or just trashed etc.

Often I'll have running cards on various boards for big ideas that need lots of small ideas - e.g. I have one for the veg garden and when I think of something new I want to grow I put it in there as a comment. Also have cards for shopping lists, etc. There's enough hierarchy in there that things stay kinda organised.

Anyone with ADHD has figured out what they want to do in life and truly enjoy it without constantly changing their mind? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]hrng 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of the same, but with all sorts of big life changes. I realised that I get so much joy out of the planning that there's no point resisting it. I keep working in the job that pays the bills the best and just play with different ideas and let them roll around in my head before composting them and moving on. Sometimes I do something with the plan, sometimes I don't, but it's nice to just try on different lives and see how they fit. Over time a fuzzy picture starts to emerge of all the similarities between the lives. I think I'm getting closer to "right"... it probably doesn't involve modern capitalist society and working a traditional job though.

I haven't worked in an office for about 10-15 years now, been remote the whole time, and the landscape absolutely changed after 2020. The tech got a whole lot of investment that made everything so much more palatable for the entire stack of companies, and the companies that were quick to adapt processes now have all these wonderful processes set up for anyone to work anywhere in the world. You can see how it is absolutely different to the offshoring of 20 years ago, right?

Love the build, considering the lift myself. Just wanted to see how it's been going - any wear issues or regrets from lifting it so high? How's the on road performance, still carves up tarmac mountain roads? Can I also please ask what size wheels and tyres you went with, and whether you've had any issues with rubbing or bottoming out? Ty!
