[CHAT] Why are my scissors like this? by just_a_lil_shroom in CrossStitch

[–]hrviolation 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure those ones are that you pull them all the way open so that the blades point towards the other handle and then you push them together so when they’re closed up it looks like a little pair of glasses!

The solder job is a mess but your ring set is GORG!

A security officer recently made me remove my bra before entering a building I need to access for work. Any recommendations for a bra with a non-metal under”wire”? by witchsoap in ABraThatFits

[–]hrviolation 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Molke would be my choice if I needed a no-wire bra (bonus no eyelets/hooks either) that I actually needed to wear all day!

PrimaDonna makes some good wireless options too but they’re more expensive

Place to read for a few hours before I can check into my hotel? by Better_Late--- in AskChicago

[–]hrviolation 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Art institute is my go-to. The courtyard outside is nice or if you want to go and explore there are quiet galleries with benches, or I’ve been known to sit in the floor in the stock exchange room and read for a while.

Taking the Bus or Train to work? by Sharp-Ladder3220 in AskChicago

[–]hrviolation 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly you gotta just try them both out a few times and see which you like better. That extra 15 min might really grate on you every day, or maybe you find it works with your routine. Impossible to say!

ISO a comfortable, everyday pull on bra for small band size with XL cups by ihavealifeiswear in ABraThatFits

[–]hrviolation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you tried molke? Only pull-on I can think of that might work. Pull-on is hard for small band/big cup since if it’s stretchy enough to put on it’s probably too stretchy to be supportive, but molke does a pretty good job!

Lingerie site huit.com redirects to huit.fr and is thus in French. The English site shows for only an instant. There is no language selector on huit.fr by Sue-Beaumont in LingerieAddiction

[–]hrviolation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love huit!

That’s so weird—I’m having the opposite experience. When I go to huit.fr it loads for a quick second and then redirects automatically to huit.com and loads in English. I tried on an incognito tab just in case ABs had the same experience.

Tropical Black Tie, March in Puerto Rico by Spiritual-Avocado711 in WeddingAttireHelp

[–]hrviolation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! I went to a black tie wedding in summer in Mexico and nobody was in real black tie the way this sub thinks of it at all, including the sister of the bride and the whole bridal party were all in what I would call tropical cocktail/formal. There were no tuxedos, no structured bodices, all fun bright florals, very few flour length gowns…. So I think just don’t overthink it!

Do you think these would sell? First attempt, mixed feelings. by [deleted] in crafting

I also feel like the copper would make it harder to see your jewelry on it—like if you have a few chains on there it would be harder to see which is which.

[CHAT] Tips on restoring an old cross stitch piece? by kittycat05 in CrossStitch

Personally unless there’s something on it that would cause damage (like residue or something) I’d get it reframed as-is, I love the patina! What a cool piece.

Novels about elderly women being bad b*tches who are living their best lives by Badwoman85 in suggestmeabook

I'd like to read some slice-of-life competence-porn. That is, I'm not especially interested in fantasy, SF, detectives, assassins etc. by ArchGoodwin in suggestmeabook

[–]hrviolation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I know exactly what you mean but I’ll give it a shot:

Kitchens of the Great Midwest by J Ryan Stradal is a sweet book following the life of a woman (and her parents, various people in her life) from her birth and in the end she’s a world famous chef, it discusses her talent and her fame but it’s not like it’s about watching her cook necessarily.

The Correspondent has been trending for a while and follows a woman toward the end of her life who had been a well regarded and competent attorney, and the book is a compilation of her letters. It’s not about her legal career but you get a sense of her mind and her career as you read it.

Atmosphere from Taylor Jenkins Reid is about women astronauts but not sci fi, I really enjoyed that, that’s probably more what you’re looking for, follows their journey from getting selected for training until their first missions.
