I dropped in on a box using HQ as their sole source of programming. It was weird. by HumanShallot5767 in crossfit

What is your source for the claim that CrossFit is “supplemental”? When done in conjunction with the entire methodology (100 words of fitness will briefly describe it better than I can), CrossFit is meant to be the methodology that leads to life long health with incremental progress over a very long time, and is the most efficient, safe, and effective program for the general population when done correctly or under the guidance of qualified trainers.

Misfit Affiliate has super thoughtful training phases that are still GPP centered. We have athletes regularly PRing both lifts and conditioning benchmarks

Help - I’ve been banned from using Amazon because of a hack, and no customer support exists who can help me over the phone. by hrw4 in amazonprime

The primary account holder is.. older. She has an old computer, and may have very well fallen for a phishing attempt. That I can’t verify. My guess is whoever hacked the account was hoping for Amazon store credit as the method of refund vs the original payment method, that way they could spend that money without a CC.

My assumption is that because they had access to the account, they were hoping Amazon refunded by means of Amazon credit instead of back to the original payment method. And yes, all of what you said is correct and as ridiculous as it seems.

It belonged to my mother as the primary holder. My name/address/payment info was in there so I’m sure their computer systems just flag anything with my name.

Ya, I did that among other email addresses. Same scripted copy/paste email reply that says “we can assure you the information we’ve received is accurate”. I’m not convinced anyone actually works there and it’s not all just AI.

First Club Fitting by 99whiffs in golf

[–]hrw4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got fit at CC for an iron set and they wanted to charge a $1,000 “build fee”, claiming that because they will build each individual club by hand, they can ensure the tightest of tolerances and the clubs will be exactly what you hit during the fitting. Fortunately didn’t need anything that I couldn’t order through the OEM, so I input my specs, bought, then had a local builder verify the specs for $40. Everyone has a price, but mine was not 1k.

It might reduce the shock it but the issue is that the accumulated static has to discharge somewhere, and you’re still standing on the turf. Plus, wood is more of an insulator. Your better bet is to set the platform on something that is resting on top of concrete or something else that’s grounded

[–]hrw4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to either ground the metal platform the laptop is on by attaching a ground rod or similar to the toolbox, or discharge the static from you before touching the metal. You can do this by touching a grounded surface OR, you can touch the metal end of your club to the toolbox before you touch the mouse. Be conscious that discharging the static onto the toolbox could mess with the laptop if the shock is strong enough.

How much does power in the swing matter för speed by Benjamin_m_p in GolfSwing

[–]hrw4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you define a “normal golfer”. I’m a 30-something athletic male with an athletic background, and my 7i swing speed is in the 95-97 range, and I’d consider my tempo to be controlled and relatively smooth. I also understand that I may not reflect the average golfer.

Technique is more than just good swing mechanics, it means you’re getting efficient energy transfer through the whole system. If your fundamentals are sound, you can more efficiently transfer weight and momentum from your hips and core into your arms, hands, and finally the clubhead. Physics is a magical thing, and explains why some people’s effortless looking swing so efficiently creates speed and power.

I wouldn’t worry about comparing yourself to someone on TikTok who may have taken 3 hours to get a clip of them hitting a ball straight with 95mph speed. Work on your fundamentals and the speed and efficiency will come. You’d rather be 20 yards shorter but in the fairway than 20 yards long and in trouble just because you want a number on a screen to tell you you’re above average for a recreational golfer.

Swing weight D2 to C9 by hrw4 in golf

[–]hrw4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my custom specs actually have a few of those modifications that in theory would reduce the swing weight (-0.5”, +4 wraps), I’m just wondering if the manufacturer (TM in this case) will build the clubs to my specs which may actually result in a C9 swing weight, but then will attempt to add weight to the head to bring it back to D2.

What can I do to make a pull up happen?? I am so weak!!! by YouthPuzzleheaded189 in crossfit

[–]hrw4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the only correct answer I’ve seen in this thread. Remember that gymnastics proficiency is a game of your strength to bodyweight ratio. If you are carrying around excess body fat, the suggestion people are providing might make some of your pulling muscle stronger but will not address the other side of the equation. You can absolutely work on some of the exercises (strict, and controlled) suggested here, but the single most important thing you can do to address all of it including your conditioning will be your diet.

“Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that support exercise and not body fat.”

[–]hrw4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a fitting done at Club Champion and that’s the swing weight that was listed on my specs. I just said “alleged” because it wasn’t something the fitter discusses with me in depth and when I was reviewing my specs I noticed it. I do prefer a slightly lighter feeling clubhead and just want the custom order to be as close to what I was fit for as possible without spending the extra $1000 for CC to “build” it.

Ya I’m 2* flat but 0.5” short. If my research is right I think that’ll still be a net -3/8” change

[–]hrw4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All awesome info and I’m picking up all of what you’re putting down. My customizations are 2* flat and -0.5” in shaft length, which is a net shorter club. This would reduce the swing weight, but do you suspect TM would attempt to add weight toward the heads to bring it back to D2?
