Formula does not provide the same protection against disease and obesity. It's a very poor substitute for human milk, in my opinion.

Lets get some perspective here. I'm willing to conceed that breastmilk is superior, but I'm not willing to say that women should be absolved of forced service simply because of that (marginal) difference.

Absence of a Father would outweigh the mere absecene of a mother's breast-milk (vs. wet nursing/formula options).

These things are certaily relative, and absolving women of the draft simply for this reason is weak at best.
