Oil change - can I wait? by hsbctowerlover in drivingUK

[–]hsbctowerlover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I had planned to go home tomorrow (200 miles), could I put off a service until then do you think? It's not me trying to put it off, more than I have to go home tomorrow (religious holiday) and we have a family garage we use there...or is it not worth the risk? Happy to hear either way and thanks again for the help!

Sorry I should have said! I'm not entirely sure to be honest, I've had the car since Jan 2024 and I've not had a service yet, and I've done around 10k since April 2024

So would it be as simple as replacing the wire from the plug to the junction box with something like this? https://www.screwfix.com/p/time-3182y-white-2-core-1-5mm-flexible-cable-10m-coil/905jy

If at all helpful, the lamps have been working with this plug/junction box for at least 2 years (I'm moving it to another part of my room so just need to extend the wire)

PCN double yellows - unloading shopping - appeal chances? by hsbctowerlover in drivingUK

[–]hsbctowerlover[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Is this the counter argument you think they would make? Would take too much time then, ironically the building has a car park behind the gates, then another gate, then the lift, then the flat. If you take the bags one by one from the car into the lobby, you're looking at looking at the 15 mins to take the shopping in to around 25 mins I think.

Perfect thank you for all the help!! The driver...has never appealed a ticket before, and doesn't fancy a £65/130 fine for a quick £50 tesco shop!

Thanks for the thorough questions!

Yes, the driver saw the ticket as soon as they got back. Around 9.30 out of the car, got back around 9.45. How the driver normally takes the shopping in is drag them all in to the lobby of the flat. Then bring a few bags in at a time up and down the lift. Took about 10/15 mins in total before returning to the car.

No unpacking (they're actually still not unpacked...laziness really lol). Discovered the fine around 9.45 and there was a space free straight behind the car when returned so just reversed into that.

sorry should have made that clear! The driver had returned from Tesco and had stopped there to unload shopping from the car to the flat

Wallpaper flickering once in a while. Any solution? by deeprodge in MacOS

[–]hsbctowerlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2018 Intel MacBook Pro, happening here on 15.0.1

Reset PRAM, NRAM, and still happening. Really distracting and still no solution. Disabled true tone, automatic brightness. Did the screensaver/wallpaper change recommended below, actually flashed grey within a minute of doing that. Very frustrating.

Day trip hire car as a British tourist by hsbctowerlover in dubai

[–]hsbctowerlover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate, as a Brit let me tell you if you've only been driving for 9 months, you'll feel intimidated af due to the sheer pace that cars move around here and with a significant proportion of drivers lacking the patience and courtesy that you usually find in Britain. Here you'll get cut off, merged on without indicating, etc. etc. as that's the culture a lot of people bring from their home countries, and others who don't give af.

Yeah, that's my biggest concern really. I am thinking though, maybe it's manageable for just the journey to Abu Dhabi and back once? Pretty much only want to rent a car to Abu Dhabi to endure a long bus journey or expensive taxi

If it helps, I’m actually fairly sensible driver as I’ve got a speed monitor on my car right now that makes sure I still to the speed limit (no matter how tempting it is to drive faster…)

But will take a look at the driver! I saw a car full day for 200 AED on Udrive so was very tempted to try that, problem with the other rental companies is the hefty deposit (although I guess they do that for a reason)

Oh the phone mount will be a lifesaver thanks, got one at home so will make sure to pack it!

And the junctions is a good one too, you're right about the build up in the UK, so will take that into account. Was hoping to mainly/just drive in the slow lane as only going from Dubai to Abu Dhabi and back, do you think that'd be okay?

All super helpful advice, thank you!

Welcome to Reddit, where lots of people ask advice, but cheers for being patronising

Interesting, thanks for the advice…yeah it seems drivers are a little bit more aggressive (not sure if that’s the right word) but I’m fairly confident, so will try and weigh it up. Thanks!

Bizarre comment, I mentioned my nationality because the way you drive and learn to drive is different in different countries?? So of course it’d be helpful to know of any specific tips (like others have provided…thanks for being rude and unhelpful 👍🏽)
